NASCAR's first race at the Miami-Homestead track may be Texas Thunder's last chance to catch Dale Jarrett in the points. Actually, he couldn't catch him even if DJ crashed on the first lap, but he'd still be in it for the final race.

Jarrett's strategy for staying ahead in the points has been to race hard every week, and it's been paying off. He'll race hard in Miami, and chances are he'll get another great finish. But who knows? This is a new track, so no one really knows how it's going to be for 400 miles. People could get into trouble because of their lack of knowledge.

But I wouldn't count on it. This is a new, smoothly pave, low-banking track, sort of like the Indy track. It's pretty big at 1.5 miles, so they'll get some speed up, but the low banking will deter them from going too fast into the corners. With it being such a nice new track, don't expect tire wear to be a problem. Setup will be important, and like I said, no one really knows what to expect.

I'd say this might be a good week for Gordon, what with his crew being so good at guessing the right setup, but he's had problem w/ his crew lately. As you know, five of his crewmembers made a surprise announcement that they'll be leaving at the end of this year to join the Yates club. How much incentive do they have now to help Gordon win?

After his win last week, Tony Stewart looks like he might be the kind of guy who can win, whether he's seen a track before or not. He's been visiting tracks that are new to him all year, and he's done famously. Joe Gibbs always puts him in a great car, and it doesn't hurt to have the most important figure in motorsports as your partner.

My only other tip for y'all is Penske. They've tested at this track a whole bunch of times, so they may have an edge over the other teams. Penske drivers Rusty Wallace and Jeremy Mayfield haven't had great years, but maybe they're primed for this one.

Finally, I can't say enough about Ricky Rudd. After buffooning his way through the first half of the year, he's really pulled it together. He's getting Yates engines (by the way, DW will be getting similar engines next year) and tech support, and he's got the streak to keep alive. Could he do it in Miami? I sure think he could.

So make your picks, and tune into the race. It's on NBC. I've never known NBC to carry races. Just shows you how popular NASCAR is getting. That, or how desparate NBC is to put anything on against the Sunday NFL games. Last few weeks they've been showing these "Extreme" sports, like dirt bike riding, skate boarding, and shop lifting. Pretty lame stuff.

Instructions

First of all, choose your name from the pull-down list. Then pick the names of the drivers that you think will finish in the top five. After that, you get to make your surprise pick, where you'll name a guy who isn't high in the points, but you think has a shot to get into this week's top five. It doesn't have to be one of the names you've already put in your top five. Now that the season is in full swing, let's use the current Winston Cup Points standings. Click here to check out the nicely done standings page at nascar.com. Remember, your surprise pick can't be any of the names listed in the TOP TEN of the points standings.

And hey, don't forget to pick a DNF. That's the guy you think will get a big fat Did Not Finish.

Click on the upside-down triangle at the right margin of each blank to see a list of drivers, then select a name. No typing necessary. Don't forget to tell me your name!

What's your opinion of the last couple years of "The Simpsons"? Does it continue to get worse, or has it improved? Is it time for them to stop making it? If you think it's worse than it used to be, what's the change/changes? Can it be fixed? Do you think the "Futurama" show is a stronger horse right now, and for the future?
