Liability Waiver

Take time before the first brevet to read and understand the LIABILITY RELEASE AND WAIVER on the Online Registration page. On the morning of EACH brevet you be required to sign a copy of this waiver.

Pre-Registration

You are highly encouraged to pre-register for any of the brevets you intend to ride. Pre-registration allows the ride leader to complete all your paperwork and makes the morning of the brevet much easier for everyone. Pre-registration does not involve the payment of an entry fee and it is much easier for the ride leader if someone pre-registers but doesn't show up than for someone to show up who has not pre-registered!

Entry Fees

The amount of the entry fee is dependent on the particular brevet and will be collected on the morning of the respective brevet. Please bring correct change or check addressed to David Bundrick.

Medals

Commemorative medals are available to brevet finishers for an additional $10.00 per brevet. This fee is collected on the day of the brevet. You must be a member in good standing of Randonneurs USA to qualify for a medal.

Course Markings & Cuesheets

Cuesheets with course directions will be provided to all starters on the morning of the respective brevets. Additionally turns on all courses that might be easy to miss, such as those onto side roads not having a traffic control device, will be painted with directional arrows. The distinct marking will be an arrow with two tails (ie <= ) and be painted in white. Generally only turns are marked and there are no confirmation arrows. Turns at "T junctions" and other "hard to miss" turns may not be marked. Remember, the arrows are for assistance. THE ABSENCE OF AN ARROW AT ANY INTERSECTION DOES NOT NECESSARILY INDICATE NO TURN. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR CUE SHEET AT ALL TIMES.

Day of Ride

Participants should try to arrive at the brevet's starting location at least 30 minutes before its scheduled start. You will sign the Liability Release and pay the entry fee and I will provide you with your Control Card and Cuesheet. Pre-registered riders will receive priority processing on the morning of the event. The rides will start promptly at the times stated and if we're still processing your paper work, then you will end up starting late!

Lighting Requirements

Lighting is optional for the start of the 200km and required for the remaining 3 longer brevets. However if you must ride into the night to complete the 200km then you will be disqualified if you do not have lights. The minimum headlight is a 2.4 watt halogen. LED lamps WILL be acceptable as a primary headlight. WARNING: Fast cyclists who ride straight thru on the 600km will face one or two mountain descents in the dark. Bring appropriate lighting. The taillight must be a non-blinking red light. It is HIGHLY recommended that you carry a backup headlight. A REFLECTIVE VEST AND REFLECTIVE ANKLE BANDS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL BREVETS OTHER THAN THE 200KM. Riders who are caught violating the lighting requirements will be disqualified.

Rider Responsibilities

Read the "Rules for Riders" from the Randonneurs USA website. Additionally you may want to read their FAQs. RIDERS ARE EXPECTED TO BE SELF-SUFFICIENT! Pack everything necessary to repair multiple flats and the tools necessary to make minor repairs. Riders are expected to have their bikes in good repair. A map holder is recommended to hold the cuesheet and if riding at night a light to illuminate the cuesheet. Food & drink must be purchased along the route so bring sufficient cash. The first control is a good 2 hours or more from the start so bring enough food and drink to start with.

Helments

ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES!

Control Cards

Riders are personally responsible for having their cards properly completed at the controls. We use convenience stores for most of our controls. PLEASE purchase something from the store to justify the clerk's time in signing you control card. BE SURE TO SIGN YOUR CARD!

Abandons & Emergencies

In case of an injury, call 911 first. We are concerned with your safety and well-being, but we are not qualified to assist in such an emergency. Your cue sheet will contain a phone number to call if you have to abandon. Please let us know so we won't be waiting for you at the end of the ride. Most rides will not have a sag vehicle on the course. We will not leave a rider completely stranded, but you could face a lengthy wait for a rie home in case you abandon.
