Lakers Deal Van Exel
Draft night saw six trades, as the Lakers sent All-Star guard Nick Van Exel to Denver for forward Tony Battie and the rights to draftee Tyronn Lue. Also, North Carolina teammates changed places as Toronto sent the rights to Antawn Jamison to Golden State for the rights to Vince Carter.
Knicks Acquire Camby
On June 25, the Knicks obtained Marcus Camby from Toronto in exchange for veteran forward Charles Oakley and the draft rights to forward Sean Marks, who the club selected with the 44th pick.
Tar Heels Traded
Draft-night trades were highlighted by an exchange of North Carolina teammates as Toronto sent the rights to Antawn Jamison to Golden State for the rights to Vince Carter. The Mavericks were also involved in deals with both Milwaukee and Phoenix.

Phil Jackson officially ended his tenure as Chicago Bulls head coach Monday after leading the team to six NBA titles in nine seasons. The team toasted the end of the Jackson era in a joint statement released by the coach and owner Jerry Reinsdorf.

New Sonics Coach Paul Westphal
New Sonics Coach Paul Westphal, who played for Seattle in the 1980-81 season and coached Phoenix from 1992-96, was named the Sonics' new head coach on Wednesday.

Michael Jordan, voted NBA Finals MVP for the sixth time, scored 16 of his 45 points in the fourth quarter, including the game-winning jumper with 5.2 seconds left, as in Sunday's Game 6 of the Finals to take the series 4-2.
