The lone goal for Kelowna was headed into the top corner by Chris Bazett on a well placed corner kick from Jon Watson. Matt Crawford was solid in goal to preserve the shut-out victory. In other games leading to the consolation final, Kelowna lost 1-0 to Nanaimo in a game where we deserved better, and a 5-1 loss to Cliff Avenue United who displayed better touch of the ball.

Saturday June 20, 98 scores:
Westside W. Towne Centre 1 - Mission Bluebird Petro 5
Kelowna B.of M. Celtics 7 - Lake Country Grizzlies 1

Incomplete statistics for some teams is due to game scores not being reported to the Division Coordinator by the home teams.

Interior Championship - June 17, 98
In Interior playdown soccer action Wednesday evening in Vernon, the Boys U-13 Kelowna Bank of Montreal Celtics needed only a tie to go along with a previous victory over Vernon United to win the Interior Championship and represent the Interior of the Province at the Provincial Premier Cup finals in Surrey July 9 to 12, 98. Playing under challenging wet field conditions, the Celtics gave up an early goal to Vernon before Scott Weninger scored the equalizer minutes later. Despite continued pressure by the Celtics, with shots going off the woodwork, the Celtics had to settle for the 1-1 draw. Brain and Chris Bazett were selected as man of the match.

Select Soccer - May 29, 30
In exhibition select soccer play on Friday evening, the Boys U-13 Kelowna Bank of Montreal Celtics played the Boys U-14 "B" select team to a 1-1 draw despite a slow start in a closely played game. The lone goal scorer for the Celtics was Brian Bazett. On Saturday, the Celtics came from behind to pull off a 2-1 victory over a strong Rutland Spirit Shriners team in the Boys U-14 league. Scoring for the Celtics were Gavin Leigh and Brian Bazett with Scott Weninger and Gary Allen putting in strong performances. Goalkeeping duties for both games were shared by Jordan Banister and Matt Crawford, both played well.

Kamloops Tournament - May 16, 17
Despite outscoring the opposition 17 to 3 over four games at the Kamloops Invitational Tournament, the Kelowna Bank of Montreal Celtics had to settle for Silver Medals in the Boys U-13A division. With solid victories over Prince George, Williams Lake and Vernon, the Celtics entered the final game against Nanaimo needing only a tie to win the tournament. However, Nanaimo controlled the midfield better and with the assistance of the referee who awarded two penalty shots against Kelowna, the Celtics lost 3-1. Scoring for the Celtics over the four games were Chris Bazett - 5 goals, Scott Weninger and J.P. Watson with 4 goals each, Scott Stevens - 2 goals, and singles added by Brian Bazett, and Matthew Ratzlaff. Jordan Banister and Matthew Crawford shared goaltending duties earning three shutouts. The Tournament was held at the McArthur Island Sports Complex.

League Game May 9, 98
On Saturday the Kelowna Bank of Montreal Celtics defeated the Westside Westbank Rotary Club, boys U-14, by a score of 6-1. Scoring for the Celtics were J.P.Watson and Jordan Bannister with two goals each, while Scott Stevens and Gavin Leigh added singles. Brian Bazett played a strong game on defense and was the man of the match.

League Games May 2 & 7, 98
On May 2, 98 the Kelowna Bank of Montreal Celtics played a strong game and blanked the Lake Country Grizzlies 6-0. Scoring for the Celtics were Scott Weninger with two goals, while singles were provided by Scott Stevens, Gavin Leigh, Nathan Brown and Mike Wannop. Matt Crawford earned the shutout in goal.
On May 7, 98 the Kelowna Bank of Montreal Celtics rolled over the Rutland Graham Construction Spirit by a score of 8-1. Although the Rutland Spirit team played well, the tight passing and strong defensive play of the Celtics proved to be the difference. Scoring for the Celtics were Jamie Cross and Chris Bazett with two goals each, with singles provided by Scott Stevens, Gavin Leigh, Scott Weninger and Brian Bazett. Man of the match was Jamie Cross.

League Game April 25 and Vernon games April 26, 98
We played three games this past weekend, tying two and losing one. On Saturday against the Boys U-14 Mission Bluebird Petro to a 2-2 draw at Parkinson field in an evenly matched game. Scoring were Chris Bazett and J.P.Watson. We then travelled to Vernon on Sunday for two road trip games. For the first game against the Vernon U-13 team we managed another 2-2 draw. Although we jumped out to a 2-0 lead before half time, the lack of intensity enabled Vernon to battle back to earn the tie. We also had two players away. The second game saw us lose 5-1 against the older Vernon U-14 team. Three quick goals early in the game put Vernon in the lead, ahead to stay, and although we played even for the rest of the game, we could not make up the difference, in addition the officiating did not curtail the opponents fouls either. The lone scorer was Nathan Brown with Mat Crawford playing a strong second half in goal and Mike Wannop also played a strong winger.
