1999 Draft Needs
Quarterback-Obviously with Brett Favre at Quarterback
the Packers do not need to spend another draft pick on a quarterback.
Every year they draft a quarterback.. For what reason? Who did they
draft last year at quarterback? Ronnie McAda, who is now in the NFL
Europe. Mr. Wolf, please don't waste another draft pick on a qb when
Favre is at the helm.
Running Backs-With Dorsey Levens and Darick Holmes
at running back, Green Bay just needs to add some depth at running back.
Remember what happened last year. We don't want another running back
problem this year. The Packers should spend a middle to late round pick
on a running back, insuring some depth.
Wide Receivers-The top 3 WR's are set, believe
me Ron Wolf will sign Antonio Freeman, but beyond that we need a few
other receivers. Bill Schroeder had a nice year last year and will be
around again.
Tight Ends-Mark Chmura, Tyrone Davis, and Jeff
Thomason will once again be the tight ends for the Packers, just like
they have been the last few years.
Offensive Line-With the loss of Adam Timmerman
to the Rams, the Packers lose a underrated, now overpaid guard. Last
year the line was good with its pass blocking but poor with its run
blocking. An offensive lineman needs to be added for future seasons
Secondary-Craig Newsome was struggling last year,
and the addition of a cornerback certainly wouldn't hurt the Packers.
They need to add a tall, speedy corner to keep up with the big receivers
in the Central. The Vikings will never be stopped without a awesome
secondary.
Linebackers-The linebacking core is solid, with
Koonce being resigned, and Brian Williams and Bernardo Harris returning.
Also returning are Antonio London and Jude Waddy.
Defensive Line-The defensive line is where the
packers need the most help. Reggie White retiring and Gilbert eating
more Gilbert Burgers hasn't helped. The addition of Vonnie Holiday last
year helped the Packers shut down the run on the right side of the ball.
He should just keep getting better and better. Remember, last year was
Holiday's first experience at DE since, high school, since then he has
played DT. Someone needs to be drafted to take over the other defensive
end position.
