Longest dual meet winning streaks in Big Nine history
(Conference wins only)
School | Streak | Time Span | Coach |
Grand Blanc | 73 | 1991- | Randy Wise** |
Grand Blanc | 66 | 1973-1980 | Lynn Freiheit*** |
*At the beginning of the 1994 season, the Big Nine Conference did away with its 2/3-1/3 system of determining its overall league champion in favor of a 50-50 system. Before 1994, the conference duals counted 2/3 towards the overall championship and the season-ending tournament counted 1/3. Since 1995, the duals and season-ending league tournament each count 50 percent towards determing the overall league champion.
**Mick Faulman, who returned to coach Grand Blanc in 1989, started the streak in 1991. Tony Whitt took over in 1995and then handed over the reigns to Randy Wise in 1996. Grand Blanc's last loss was a 7-0 setback to Powers Catholic on April 25, 1991.
***Lynn Freiheit started the first streak in 1973. Freiheit, who is still the only Big Nine boys' coach to win state Coach of the Year honors (1979), left Grand Blanc to take the head tennis job at Oral Roberts University at the conclusion of the 1978-79 school year. Mick Faulman, who played for Freiheit, took over for his former boss in the spring of 1980. Grand Blanc's first streak came to and end on April 22, 1980 when it lost to Flushing 4-3.
