In 1993, the MHSAA changed the rules allowing all teams that score 16 points to advance to the state finals. At the start of the 2000-01 school year, the MHSAA began scoring a fourth doubles fight. With the new flight, the minimum requirement to qualify for the state tournament is 18 points.
