Hoddle after a dose of Matty Magic!

Hoddle had contact with Le Tissier while he was manager of the England team, and 'Le God' was a regular member of the international scene under the new Saints' chief's stewardship.

Although Le Tissier failed to sight the global stage alight with his England performances, he remained a favourite of Hoddle's.

The pair share a similarity in terms of their deceptively languid playing style which belies their ability to change the course of a game in an instant.

In their prime, both players possessed the potential to produce the unexpected, and Le Tissier's penchant for delivering something different could be crucial during the season's run-in.

The Channel Islander has been the lynchpin of the Saints' continued survival in the Premiership, and his presence and experience could play a key part in the club climbing to safety this season.

Le Tissier is currently battling to shrug off a hamstring injury, but Hoddle is adamant that on his day, the long-serving Saint is one of the best players in the top flight.

He said: "I gave him opportunities at international level as he is a quality player and he has still got the quality to be one of the best players in the Premiership and that's my belief in Matt."

Hoddle takes over at the dell! 28/1/2000

Hoddle was unveiled as Southampton's caretaker manager this morning after Dave Jones was handed 12 months 'compassionate leave' to concentrate on his November court case.

Former England chief, Hoddle, admitted the priority was safeguarding the Saints' place in the top flight for the 2000/01 campaign, and revealed he had no qualms about taking the reins in another high profile position.

He said: "I've got no worries about the position and I'm delighted to be able to offer my services to Southampton.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge and the experience of England is superb to have under my belt."

The Southampton post is Hoddle's first footballing job since he was dismissed as national boss last year, and he is chomping at the bit to work with the players poised to come under his stewardship.

He has brought in his trusty sidekick, John Gorman, as his number two and Hoddle acknowledged the pair are indebted to Jones for leaving such an array of talent available to them.

"There are a lot of quality players at The Dell and it is a nice challenge to go in there and get points on the board, but the most important thing is to maintain Premiership status," said Hoddle.

"Dave Jones has done a fantastic job, and he has left me and John to take over at a stage where there is a lot of quality at the club."

After a lengthy absence away from the glare of the managerial spotlight, the ex-Chelsea boss, has been biding his time for the ideal opportunity to sail his way.

And Hoddle reckons the position as caretaker on the south coast arrived in his harbour at precisely the right moment after admitting he had received other offers to return to management.

"I had opportunities to return, but it was about timing and it was not quite right at a personal level," he said.

"This is the right time for me, and it is a unique situation, but I'm up for the challenge and looking forward to it."

Le Tiss' England plea

Matthew Le Tissier has issued a plea to Kevin Keegan - to let him help
save England's Euro 2000 qualifying campaign by returning from international
> exile.
> Le Tissier got a taste of being back on the world stage last weekend -
when
> he appeared as a substitute for a World XI in Australia to open the new
> Olympic stadium in a friendly against the Socceroos.
> Now the 30-year-old Southampton legend has told Keegan to look in his
> direction when the England coach makes plans to try and find a creative
> player capable of making chances for the likes of Alan Shearer and Michael
> Owen.
> Le Tissier's last full England appearance came in the ill-fated World Cup
> qualifier against Italy in 1997 when he was substituted in the second
half.
> It was only his third start for England - with another of his caps coming
in
> the game against the Republic of Ireland which was abandoned because of
> rioting on the terraces.
> He has never been given an extended run on the international stage - and
> says if Keegan gives him a chance he will prove others including Graham
> Taylor, Terry Venables and Glenn Hoddle were wrong to cast him into the
> international wilderness.
> Le Tissier said: ''International football is all about having quality when
> it really matters. If you can make a difference in a match then you are
> invaluable at that level.
> ''Keegan looks like the type of manager who will put faith in people with
> talent to change games, even if it's only in short bursts. My career has
> often been like that and I still feel I have a lot that I could offer
> England.
> ''I may be 30 - but Keegan has said he's not an ageist manager and he's
> proved that by giving Teddy Sheringham a chance to come back into the
> England setup.''
> Le Tissier is still baffled by the way he has been consistently ignored
for
> international football - with his last appearance coming for the England
'B'
> side in a game with Russia before last year's World Cup finals.
> He was told he had a chance of making it into Glenn Hoddle's squad for the
> finals if he did well, and he responded by scoring a hat-trick for England
> against the Russians only to be told they weren't at full strength and
> didn't play well enough to test him.
> Le Tissier added: ''I was made the scapegoat when we lost to Italy and I'm
> still not really sure why. But that has just made me even more ambitious.
> ''At any time when I've been given a run in a team people have seen what
I'm
> capable of and my record speaks for itself. When it was backs to the wall
> time at Southampton I was there influencing games. ''If we start the season well at Southampton I don't see why I can't force
> my way into his plans - I get the impression Kevin Keegan and I have
similar
> views on the way the game should be played.''

Le Tiss club stripped of its licence

A Club once owned by Soccer ace Matt Le Tissier, where strippers performed explicit sex acts, had its booze licence revoked yesterday. Vice cops saw naked girls simulate intercourse, oral sex and lesbian sex during three visits to the Southampton star's Celebration Plaza nightspot. Lap dancers performed explicit acts for £10. One said she would do it "EXTRA RUDE" for £5 more. Eastleigh Jp's ruled the acts were "Lewd and indecent." Divorced Dad-of-two Le Tissier, 30, was director of the Southampton club at the time but has now sold his interest.

Le Tiss Back in England reckoning!

Matthew Le tissier is playing down talk of a possible international recall to concentrate giving Saints a flying start to the season. Coach Kevin Keegan has picked Le Tissier along with Paul Gascoigne as the two creative midfielders who can boost England's flagging fortunes. And he cannot fail to have been impressed with the Saints star's slide-rule pass for Egil Ostenstad to hit the only goal at Coventry on Saturday.

Le Tissier said, "It was nice to hear but to be honest it will mean nothing unless I am playing well for Southampton. Of course I would love to play for England again. Everyone knows how much it means to me and it is nice to know I havn't been forgotten"

Lets all hope then , that Matty gets picked! Things may just be looking up for the chap!!
