    appeared in Europe.
At the beginning of the 1995/96 season Redknapp's excellent form earned him
an England call-up. He has already made 18 U-21 appearances, captaining the
side on several occasions and even scoring a hat-trick.
Well known for his passing abilities, and skill, and teams also fear
Jamie's ability from set pieces, particularly free kicks within range of the goal.

    Jamie's gossip:

    * Redknapp has his own fan club.
    * Mark Redknapp, brother of Jamie, is a male model.
    * Jamie got 3 injuries on international duties, all with the opening letter 'S'-----Swizerland, Scotland, South Africa. how coincidence!!
    * Redknapp's birthday is on the same day with the worldwide pop singer ---
    George Michael.
    * Arsenal,Tottenham Spurs,Newcastle,Roma are clubs linked with Redknapp when he's not an automatic first team player during Sept to Dec,96.
    * Redknapp is one of the 3 first team players who hadn't even get a yellow card in 96-97 season.
    * Jamie is rated as No.2 to the honour 'Year of the Midfielder', lost to Roy Keane on July 97, by Total Football magazine.
    * Further,Jamie is the No.4 football coolest person on the column 'Football's Most WANTED' by SHOOT magazine, 8th March 97.

    Jamie's transfer rumour:

    Clubs tried to sign him!!

Arsenal(April 1996) * Bruce Rioch was one of the first managers to try to prise Redknapp away from Liverpool. When he was manager of Arsenal in the 1995-96 season,Rioch wanted Redders to add flair to the Highbury midfield.

Tottenham Hotspur(November 1996) * Gerry Francis came after Redknapp as he was forced to sit things out at Liverpool following his Euro'96 injury. Liverpool snubbed an initial approach but were said to be holding out for 6 millions.

West Ham United(November 1996) * With his dad as Hammers boss, there was always going to be talk of a move to Upton Park.At the same time as Spurs were chasing Redders, there was also talk about a possible move to West Ham.

AS ROMA(January 1997) * The Italians made a 3.5 million offer in January 1997. This was increased to 5 million as the Italian deadline approached but injury to Barnes and a suspension for Thomas saw Redders back in the Reds' side.

Celtic(Feburary 1997) * Tommy Burns looked south to strengthen his side's ailing bid to stop Ranger.Talk that Redknapp wanted to go to London made them the least likely club to lure the midfielder away. And so it turned out.

Arsenal(March 1997) * Arsene Wenger looked to take Redknapp to Highbury before the 1997 transfer deadline in March. After Paul Merson had been forced out injured,Wenger was said to be prepared to fork out 6 million.

Newcastle United(March 1997) * Kenny Dalglish was reported to be ready to make Redders his first signing at Newcastle. Again, the talk arose after Redknapp's return to the Liverpool side as transfer deadline day approached.

    Jamie's international career:

Let's take a look at Jamie Redknapp's long, hard road to his ten England caps.

    Cap 1 - England 0, Colombia 0 (Sept 6,1995, friendly)
Terry Venables gave 22-year-old Jamie his debut in front of a disappointing crowd at Wembley. Redders started the game alongside Paul Gascoigne and Dennis Wise, before being replaced by Liverpool team-mate John Barnes in a game best remembered for goalkeeper Rene Higuita's 'scorpion' kick.

    Cap 2 - Norway 0, England 0 (Oct 11,1995, friendly)
A first away game for young Jamie saw him travel to Oslo for a difficult friendly against a Norway team which featured Stig Bjornebye, Oyvind Leonhardson and Ronny Johnsen. In a midfield made up of himself, Dennis Wise, Rob Lee and club-mate Stevie Mac, Jamie racked up his first full 90 mins at international level. But England had yet to score with Jamie in the side, or let one in.

    Cap 3 - England 3, Switzerland 1 (Nov 15,1995, friendly)
Selected by Venables for the third successive game, Redders started well enough, but disaster soon struck. Jamie felt a hamstring go and had to leave the field just seven mins into the game before he could make any kind of impression. To make matters even worse for the Liverpool man, Steve Stone, the player who replaced him, netted England's third and was named Man Of The Match after putting in a fantastic display.

    Cap 4 - China 0, England 3 (May 23,1996, friendly)
With Euro'96 fast approaching, Jamie returned to the international scene on England's Far East tour. Playing alongside Gazza, just 12 days after the disappointment of losing with Liverpool in the FA cup final to Man United, Jamie put in a decent performance to seal a place in Venables' Championship squad.

    Cap 5 - England 2, Scotland 0 (June 15 ,1996, friendly)
With England struggling to break down the hard-working Scots in a game they needed to win at Wembley, Redders came on as a half-time substitute and lined up with Gazza and Incey in a 3-5-2 formation. Having helped turn the game England's way with what was turning into a fine performance, he landed awkwardly and was stretched off. The injury saw him miss the rest of the tourament.

    Cap 6 - England 2, Mexico 0 (March 29 ,1997, friendly)
Nine months after the disappointment of his Euro'96 exit it was time for another Redknapp comeback, this time he was making his first apperance under England new boss Glenn Hoddle. Jamie's team-mate Robbie Fowler had already netted his first goal for England when Jamie came into the game, appearing as a substitute, replacing Leeds midfielder David Batty in the 62nd minute of the game.

    Cap 7 - England 2, Georgia 0 (April 30,1997, France'98 qualifying)
England returned to competitive football action with a World Cup qualifier at home to Georgi Kinkladze's Georgia, and Redders foudn himself named by Glenn Hoddle as oen of the England substitutues that night. Having waited patiently on the bench for 77 mins of the game, Redders replaced the man who was to become his club captain, Paul Ince, with the score at 1-0 and played his part in helping England to double the score.

Cap 8 - England 2, South Africa (May 24,1997, friendly)
After 56 mins of England's game at Old Trafford, Jamie again left the field of international football on a stretcher, this time suffering from a broken ankle. Tragically, it ruled Jamie out of the pivotal Le Tournoi competition, where Hoddle was believed to be planning to experiment with him in a new position as sweeper. So he had to watch England's success from home.

    Cap 9 - Sweden 2, England 1 (Sept 5,1998, Euro 2000 qualifier)
Having played just 108 mins of first-team football since his return for Liverpool, Jamie found himself partnering his club-mate Paul Ince in midfield in his first competitive start for England. Unfortunately, Ince left the field early and, despite playing quite well, Redknapp was unable to break down the Swedes' well organised defence.

    Cap 10 - England 0, Bulgaria (Oct 10,1998, Euro 2000 qualifier)
Three years and 34 days after making his England debut, Jamie finally made his tenth appearance wearing the three lions in a game just about everyone involved in will want to forget quickly. Previously, Jamie hasn't made it uninjured through any three internationals in a row, so perhaps it was a good idea to pick up his second booking in two games and get himself suspended for the Luxembourg game!!!
