Sports Gaming Digest (6-29-98)

Greetings Sports Gamers!

I'm glad to report that the webpage and some recruiting effort
caught the attention of a few more interested sportsgamers.
Also, I notice a couple of sports game related messages on
newsgroups and listservs and and I'm taking the liberty of
sending this digest out to a couple of unsuspecting customers.

This is not spam.

The Sports Gaming Digest is an informal discussion group of
sports gamers who want to talk about sports gaming. Any sports
game-related topics is fair game. Check out the website below
for more information

Hope to hear from anyone and everyone soon.

Regards,
Jim Gordon

Hey Jim;

I very interested in what your offering. Just what I've been looking for.
Started playing board games when I was 14, Negamco Hockey and T.H.E.
Football Game. I was hooked. Now I collecting them, playing them, but
looking for something different. A sports game (say Baseball) that deals
in the management part of the game. Yeah, you still will have to simulate
a game in some form however, encompass trades, contracts and the like. NO
COMPUTER GAMES !!! Pennant Race by Avallon Hill is something like that.
Maybe I'll just have to make one.

Where can I find the following;

1) Formulas for making Statis-Pro Baseball cards. Have 92 edition with no
info like this in the box

[Unfortunately, I don't have this information at the moment.
I bought a well-used game not long ago and when I finally got
around to looking inside discovered the rules were missing. If
anyone would care to supply the card formula information, I would
appreciate it, and probably others as well. If no one feels like
typing it out I would reimbursement anyone who would xerox the
appropiate pages and send them to me. Thanks.--JCG]

2) All-Star Replay article that incorporates extra rules for Pennant Race
by AV

Thanks Rick

Jim,

Maybe you can help me out. I've heard that Avalon Hill has given out the
formula to make the players cards for Statis-Pro Baseball. Any chance
that
you have the formula and would send me a copy?

[How coincidental that two gamers would ask about the same
thing the same week. Maybe this will start another roun of
discussions about SP baseball, a great old game.--JCG]

[Hi Torsten. I spotted your message on a newsgroup and
thought that you might be interested in the Sports Gaming Digest.
In answer to your question, Statis Pro Football began in the
1970s, and Avalon Hill distributed the game from 1980 to 1992 or
1993. The 5th edition rules are the latest. I have information
regarding the formula for making the playing cards and I'll post
it to the SGD website one of these days. The Football Strategy
game on the AH website is a totally different game. Avalon Hill
has killed off most of their sports games.--JCG]

Hi

I have been replay gaming now for nearly 20 years. I started with the
Statis Pro games and then went almost solely to Terry's stuff. I have
everything that Terry has ever produced in the way of table replay gaming,
but not all of his PC stuff. I don't get as much time as I used to, to
play
the games (kids, computers, etc.).

I'd love to correspond with other like minded souls (especially if you
support QPR).

[Sorry, but I don't know what QPR means.--JCG]

Regards

Mike

Subject: Ironman Football

[Greetings, Alfred. I saw your post on consim-l and thought
you might like to hear about the Sports Gaming Digest. I've
never played Ironman Football but maybe someone else on the list
would like to talk about it.--JCG]

I brought this up last week on VWHQ's IRC chat time, and it drew some
support.

I have Ironman Football. It looks like the most fun you can have with the
lights on, but it
takes a long time to play, lots of under-the-table dealings, and many,
many people. I
wondered if it'd work by E-mail.

[Wild applause from the gallery]

Sounded like a market. What I'm wondering now is this:

1. Has anyone tried this?
2. If so, would you kindly do it again?
3. If this is a new frontier in Consim (and if helmet-less football ain't
consim, I don't know
what is), how would one, ah, well, do it?

I, to cite a Dilbert phrase, am an "Idea Rat." That, and I take orders
nicely. Anyone who
thinks I have any organizational ability whatsoever should look at my game
collection.
