The Virginia Vipers are a team of eighteen of the top 16 year-old baseball players from the Northern Virginia, Washington, DC and Montgomery/Prince George's Maryland region. We compete at the national, regional and local levels and are primarily affiliated with Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Baseball. In 1998, the Vipers will compete locally in the prestigious Old Dominion League, affiliated with the CABA and NABF. The Old Dominion League is home to the Fairfax County Eagles (1997 CABA World Series Champions), the Fairfax Barnstormers (1997 Virginia Babe Ruth 16-18 State Champions), the Vienna Mustangs and the Potomac Mudcats.
The Vipers were formed in 1996 with the goal of qualifying and competing in the 14 & Under AAU National Championship Tournament held in Kingsport, TN. That year, we were Gold Medalists in the Potomac Valley Regional Tournament and won the honor of competing at the AAU National Championship Tournament, where we were one of the last 16 teams remaining out of a field of 55. In 1997, we did even better. Again, we were the Potomac Valley AAU Region's representative to the National Tournament, one of only 15 teams out of a 55-team field to make it to the Championship two years in a row. Once again, we were one of the last 16 teams remaining at the end of the tournament, winning twice as many games as in 1996. In 1997, the Vipers also competed in the Northern Virginia Fall Baseball League where we were the regular season Senior League Division I Champions.
In 1998, the Vipers will travel to at least five high profile tournaments, including the USA Baseball Junior Olympics, held in Tucson, AZ, the Beast of the East Tournament, held in Wheeling, WV and the AAU National Championship, held in Hampton Roads, VA.
