After
a tremendous finish to the 2003-04 season, where the team reached the final of the Division 1 Cup and the semis of
another, Legal & General have taken a while to get going in 2004-05. Having lost goalkeeper Andy Dakin and some important defenders over the close season, the side have let in a few more goals this term. However, at the other end we continue to score on a regular basis and have been involved in some high-scoring close encounters. On a personal note, I scored my second Legal goal in a pre-season friendly against Lansdowne Bluebirds, tapping into an empty net after the goalkeeper had let the ball slip through his legs on the edge of the penalty area. Coming off the bench in the Ted John Cup game with The Big Sleep Hotel, I set up Mark Curran for our sixth goal in a 7-1 win, but any hopes of another Cup run were dashed when we crashed out in extra-time in the next round. The frustration of bit-part substitution roles has been tempered by five competitive starts this season, mainly on the right wing although I did fill in against BT Enterprise at right back, almost scoring an own goal that day.
