Does the page look pretty?
I've been playing with Macromedia Dreamweaver and its taken a little while but I've changed the look of the site, well the news page anyway. Dont worry too much about the menu, I might make it a flash object. But I do need your help and support to let me know of any errors that you see. So please send me a message and let me know what you think..

Cool Martial Arts Animation
I was sent a link to a Flash made Martial Arts Animation, which you have to see. It takes a while to load the page as its about 1.34 mb but I assure you its well worth the wait. Its got great sound effects and some great moves. I may even upload it to the site. So why are you still here, go have a look at it now! Oh yeah if you dont have a Macromedia Flash 5 player or dont have windows 98 the you'll have to go to the macromedia site and download it.

NEW! - Woohoo we finally have a message board
Ok, it may need a little work but here it is. So now you can post questions to all the martial artist out there, and leave me alone. Just joking of course, I love you all. But I hope it can be a good source for the community to get together and post their own questions and ideas.

NSW State Tournament 20th May 2001
Its amazing to see sunlight after finishing a tournament, you could say I was very impressed with the organisation of the tournament. I entered the tournament as a spectator, coach and a competitor. I Weight in at 10am and was finished by 4pm. I actually got to see the sun after leaving the tournament which is a rareity. I think it helped that the tournament had 4 rings and that the juniors were on during the first half of the day and the seniors in the afternoon. What I didn't like was the fact that senior black belts only had 2 x 2minute rounds instead of the proper 3 x 3 minute rounds. Yes this would have contributed to the quickenss of the day, but 2 rounds, thats for colour belts. A black belt fight is a technical fight. The other thing I was concerned about was some of the outcomes of the matches and some of the referees being inconsistant. Other than that I think it went well. I just wish we we back to the days of 4 corner judges. However that means a shortage of judges and referees.

Results for Wyllie Taekowndo
Tim Mann - Narrowly defeated 2-1
Benjamin Loh - Narrowly defeated 3-2
Levi Rhone - Won his first fight and was defeated 4-2 in his second fight. (sliver)
Bret Abikar - Won his division (Gold)
Thanks to the people that supported us.

Don't know when Ben has updated the page?
Not a problem, message me with your email address, and I'll tell you when I've updated the page. Dont want to know? Then I dont care, you're gettign it anyway :).

Finally an update.
I have been really busy with training but at the moment I've got some spare time so I thought I'd do a mini update. Oh and How did the Olympics go? Congrats to Lauren Burns (Gold Medal) and Daniel Trenton (Silver Medal) of Australia, you did Australia proud. If you didn't know, I was a part of the Opening ceremony at the Sydney Olympics, if you want to see some pictures of me and some of the others from the Wyllie Taekwondo School go to http://www.geocities.com/gorayugun.

I met up with Daniel Trenton and a few of the Australian Olympic Team at a training camp in Melbourne in April and have to say he is one of the nicest guys around. Jin Tae Jeong (the Australian Coach), Paul Lyons have inspired me to work and train harder and faster. Thanks guys. I should have some pictures up in the future.

Results of last Poll
Should there be more non-sport Taekwondo Tournaments?
Yes 52 (88%)
No 7 (11%)
59 Total votes

Ok not too many people completed the poll. This seems to coincide with my idea that not every one is interested in sparring tournaments. So take note instructors, don't just teach the sport side of Taekwondo. Here are some comments for you review anyway.

  • Theres too much emphasis on the WTF sport style tournaments and not enough on the Traditional Self Defence / Art side of it.
  • Look at what people who don't do Taekwondo, thought about the Olympics.
  • no.lets get the sport side up and running first.it is a sport now, traditional stuff is dated.
  • we should use the sport aspect of tkd to open peoples minds to the art
  • hi im abid from india, well i think there should be one world championship like the soccer world cup or like cricket, wheretheres one champion in the world in each category
  • I come from a long line of warriors and am a 6th dan master teaching full contact.good stuff guys.
  • Traditional techniques are too violent for self-defence. Causing severe injury to an attacker will put you in jail! Sport TKD is the way to go, but should be more realistic e.g. more like kick -boxing, but without the leg kicks, and more points awarded for high kicking.
  • I think maybe there should be a tournanment every weekend like how people play soccor and football and netball everyweek end until the grand final and then play off like that

For the next poll, we'll test this further and have some more options and see what everyone likes most about their favourite Martial Art.
