3-3-2 (33 stack)


The 3-3-2 or 33 stack is, on paper, the best defense you can run. It is pretty much impossible to block every one, you always have a player free. The key to running this defense is having great playes in the defensive backfield.

BASE FORMATION

SDE-1)The strong defensive end is heads up on the offensive end.
 
    2)Will slant right or left. If he slants in then he has the QB on
      option. If he slants out he has the pitch man.

    3)Takes 2 steps in and contains. (remember to keep outside shoulder and
      leg free)

WDE-1)The weak defensive end is heads up on the offensive end or on the
      outside shoulder of the off the offensive gaurd.

    2)Will slant right or left. If he slants in then he has the QB on
      option. If he slants out he has the pitch man.

    3)Takes 2 steps in and contains. (remember to keep outside shoulder and
      leg free.

NOSE-1)Lines up heads up on the center.

     2)Will slant right or left. Attacking either A gap.

     3)Always has dive.

SLB-1)The strong linebacker lines up behind the strong defensive end about 2
      to 3 yards deep.
    
    2)The SLB may slant also to the inside or outside. If the defensive end goes in
      then the SLB takes out. If the SLB takes in he has the QB on option
      and if he takes out he takes the pitch man on option.

    3)Key is backs and in some cases the tight end if there is only one back 
      in the backfield. Plays run then pass.
    
    4)May attack either b or c gaps.

MLB-1)lines up behind the nose about 2 to 3 yards deep.

    2)The MLB may slant to the inside or outside. If the nose takes the left
      A gap then the MLB takes the right A gap. If the nose takes right then
      the MLB takes left. Attacks opposite A gap. (blitzes mos of the time)

    3)Always takes dive. Key is backs.

WLB-1)Lines up behind the weak defensive end about 2 to 3 yards deep. 

    2)The WLB may slant to the inside or outside. If the defensive end
      takes in then the WLB takes out. If the WLB takes in then he has QB 
      on the option. If the WLB takes out then he takes the pitch man on
      the option. 
    
    3)May attack either the b or c gaps. 

    4)Key is the backs.Play run then pass.

CORNERS-1)Line up 7-10 yards from the ball behind or just outside the 
          linebackers.

        2)Key is tight ends or outsde reciver to their side.

        3)Play the pass then the run.
Pass Coverage
-The 3-3-2 can be played with man to man or in zone. In the zone coverage the corners take deep halves and the linebackers underneath.
