The 4-2-2 is the premier defense in Kansas. It is a front heavy defense only to be used if you have a pair of good defensive backs. This defense is very effective against the run and you don't need to blitz to get a good pass rush.

DE-1)Line up to the outside shoulder of the offensive end.
2)His inside is forward and will take a small step toward the offensive
end at the snap to jam the end.(this will help keep the offensive end
off your linebakers and helps the defensive backs determine if the
play is run or pass before deciding what they have to do.)
3)the defensive ends have contain and are responsible for turning everything
back to the inside to the linebackers. They will rush from the outside in.
4)they are responsible for the QB on the option.
DT-1)The defensive tackles are responsible for shooting the gaps and creaing
confusion and disrupt the timing in the opponents backfield.
2)they line up anywhere between the center and the end. they will shoot gaps
either right or left depending on the signal from the sideline.
3)the ideal place to line up is in the gaps or heads up on the gaurd.
4)their key is to get to the ball carier.
LB-1)is responsable for the backs.
2)must read offensive gaurds.
3)line up 2 yards behind defensive tackles.
4)if the offensive end is not the outside reciver then the linebacker
to that side is responsible for the tight end.
C -1)responsible for the end reciver on each side.
2)must play pass first then run.
3)is responsible for the pitch man on the run.
4)last line of defense
5)line up 7-10 yards from reciver or end.(In some cases you would line up
7 yards deep and 2 yards in or out, to take away either the inside or outside
passing lane.
