PLAYER DEVELOPMENT:
I try to assess each player as the season progresses and work on both their strong and weak points. It's important that each player know that they bring something to the team. I stress team play but try not to hinder individual contributions.
ROLE MODEL:
I attempt to be a good role model for the kids. I treat the kids with respect and will not tolerate any disrespect to their fellow team members, coaches, referees or opponents. I strive to make the learning process fun by joining in and keeping a positive attitude no matter how tough the competition. My personal goal is for each player to try and reach their individual skill level, so that when they leave this program they will remember it as a positive experience.
SELF IMPROVEMENT:
I have completed the state E and D license clinics and in 1999 completed the national C license. I try to keep up with new developments in soccer with periodicals and watching professional and amateur soccer games whenever I can. I assisted a B licensed coach for two years. I have attended the coaching effectiveness training by Dr. Small and have attended many of the clinics put on by the association.
SPORTSMANSHIP:
Sportsmanship is one of my top priorities. I want my players to play hard and try to win but, if it isn't meant to be then it shouldn't be the end of the world. The game should still be fun, win or lose. I think the results are evident when I was coaching recreational teams my boys team won the Sportsmanship award 3 years in a row and my girls team won it in the first two years it was available for them!
