Bequeathed Runners (updated 1/23/98)
The term bequeathed runners is used to refer to runners left on base when a pitcher is removed from a game. If a bequeathed runner later scores, the run is charged to the pitcher after he has left the game.
This statistic is the inverse of inherited runners, except that while the same runner may be inherited by more than one pitcher, he can only be bequeathed by one pitcher.
Some notes about the tables:
- GS - games started. GR - games in relief. G - total games.
- BR - # of bequeathed runners. BRS - # of bequeathed runners who scored. Pct. - % of bequeathed runners who scored.
- Note that there are separate entries for starts and relief appearances, as well as a combined total.
- Pitchers who pitch for more than one team in a season are shown with each of the teams for which they pitched.
- There is a summary item at the end of each table which shows the number of relievers used per game (RP/G).
