Full Time Staff

Our staff of eight full time certified athletic trainers, four graduate assistant athletic trainers and forty undergraduate student athletic trainers work with our 35 athletic teams on a daily basis. Working in conjunction with physicians and other allied medical professions, the OSU sports medicine staff works to help prevent, evaluate, treat and rehabilatate injuries.

Director of Athletic Training-
Bill Davis
-Ohio State's Director of Athletic Training, Bill has been a long time proponent of athletic training and student trainer education. Bill handles all athletic training administrative duties as well as Head Athletic Trainer duties with the football team. Additionally, he is instrumental in recruitment, selection, and development of our undergraduate and graduate student athletic trainers. Bill is beginning his 15th year at OSU and his fourth in the Director role. He spent five years at Oklahoma State University before returning back to Ohio State.

Athletic Trainer-Doug Calland
-Doug starts his fourth year back at OSU and works full-time with the Buckeye football team. Before returning to OSU, Doug worked with the Washington Husky football and basketball teams. Doug coordinates the injury recording system at OSU and also serves on the Awards Committee of the National Athletic Trainers' Association.

Assistant Athleteic Trainer-Vince O'Brien
-Vince works primarily with our Olympic sports in Larkins Hall. A highly respected educator who spent the summer of 1996 assisting with the Olympic Games in Atlanta, he begins his sixth year as a full time athletic trainer at OSU. Prior to returning to his college alma mater, Vince spent two years at Bishop Watterson High School teaching and serving as the Head Athletic Trainer.

Athletic Trainer-
Mike Bordner
-A veteran athletic trainer, Mike begins his 31st year at Ohio State working primarily with our volleyball and men's basketball teams. After spending twenty years covering baseball, Mike is considered unquestioned authority on throwing and shoulder injuries and is a top athletic training instructor at Ohio State.

Athletic Trainer-Linda Daniel
-Another vetern athletic trainer, Linda returns for her 26th year at OSU. A licensed physical therapist and athletic trainer who works with our field sports and rehabilitation. A pioneer in Athletic Training for women, Linda is an excellent teacher and is highly regarded for her evaluation skills. Linda was inducted into the Ohio Athletic Trainers' Hall of Fame in 1998 and The Ohio State University Hall of Fame in 1997.

Assistant Athletic Trainer-Janine Oman
-Janine returns for her third year after "coming home" to Ohio State from the University of North Carolina. She received her undergraduate degree in physical therapy from OSU and her athletic training certification at UNC. Janine works with OSU's field sports and specializes in rehabilitation. An excellent teacher, Janine coordinates the advanced athletic training coursework at OSU.

Assistant Athletic Trainer-Bob Sweeney
-Bob also returns to OSU after completing his graduate degree at Kansas State University. Bob has spent the last three years at West Point working with football, baseball, basketball and track. With his undergraduate and graduate degrees in education, Bob brings a wealth of athletic training knowledge and clinical instruction with him to OSU.
