College:

  • Went to school at Temple University under coach John Chaney
  • Played three seasons under coach Chaney (1991-94)
  • Was the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year in his senior season
  • As a sophomore, played 29 games (started 9) as Temple's sixth man
  • Averaged 11.4 points on 43.7% shooting and became first Temple player to average double figures coming off the bench
  • Also grabbed 122 rebounds and dished 30 assists
  • As a junior, became a starter, and averaged 17.0 points on 45.8% shooting.
  • Averaged 7.0 rebounds, 2.2 steals, 1.8 assists and 1.3 blocked shots in 32 games
  • In his final year, averaged a team-leading 19.2 points-per-game
  • Led the Owls in FG% at 47.1% and blocked shots at 1.5
  • Also grabbed 6.8 rebounds per game and handed out 1.9 assists
  • Ranked among Atlantic 10 Conference leaders in steals (2nd), scoring (3rd), FG% (5th), blocked shots (7th) and rebounding (10th)
  • Finished his career on the all-time Temple list 13th in scoring (1470), 3rd in steals (197), 4th in rejections (107) and 6th in three-pointers (141)
  • First ever Temple player to get 100 blocks and 100 assists in a career
  • Was a member of Team USA's gold medal-winning team prior to his senior season

Draft:

  • Was drafted in the 1st round, 10th pick by the Lakers in the 1994 NBA Draft
  • Became the first and only lottery choice of the Lakers

1994-95 Regular Season:

  • Played 64 games for the Lakers, averaging 14.0 points on 46.0% shooting
  • Added 3.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and totalled 41 blocks for the season
  • Averaged 2.05 steals, 6th in the league and 1st among rookies
  • Shot 37.0% from 3-pointers and 72.2% free throws
  • Boasted NBA's best steal-to-turnover ratio (1.75) and became the first rookie to do so
  • Took Rookie Game MVP in Phoenix with 25 points and 6 steals
  • Was selected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team along with Grant Hill, Jason Kidd, Glenn Robinson and Brian Grant

1994-95 Playoffs:

  • Played in 10 games against Seattle and San Antonio
  • Averaged 8.7 points on 37.5% field goals and 44.4% 3-pointers
  • Also added 3.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.9 blocks
