  • Dec. 2, 2002: First practice


  • Dec. 28th: Annual fundraiser Alumni game: High school wins!


  • Jan. 7: CCS at home, 5:30. Whitney puts in a whopping 34 points (incl. 3 tres) to lead Ninilchik to a 63 to 12 victory. Other scorers: Amanda Matson-8; Emily and Kelsey each had 6; Kendra - 4; Katie - 3, and Amanda P. - 2.


  • Jan. 9-11: Ninilchik Tourney: Ninilchik game summaries as follows:

    Ninilchik beats Tok on Thursday, 54-39 with Whitney leading all scorers with 23 pts., incl. 2 three pointers. Amanda Matson - 12, incl. a 3 pointer; Kelsey - 6; Emily - 5, incl. a 3 pointer; Katie - 3; Kendra and Mindy each had a bucket.

    Ninilchik beats Sohi JV on Friday 72-26, with Whitney leading all scorers with 17 points. Kelsey Deiman knocks in 12 points, followed by Hannah George with 9, Katie and Kendra each scored 6, Amanda - 4, Emily - 3, and Amanda P, Kendra and Lauren each had a bucket. 3 point goals were made by Whitney (2), Hannah and Kelsey.

    On Saturday, Ninilchik outscored Unalaska 72-26. Whitney led all scorers with 20 points, followed by Kendra with 11, Amanda Matson with 9, Lauren with 8, and Emily with 7. Other scorers: Kelsey - 5, Maria and Dylan each with 4, and Amanda P. and Mindy each had a basket.

    Tourney winners: Ninilchik Wolverines; Runners Up: Unalaska Raiders. Tourney Most Valuable Player was Whitney Leman. All Tourney: Amanda Matson & Kelsey Deiman.


  • Jan. 23-25: The teams go on a long road trip....twelve hour van ride to Valdez and a 6 hr. ferry ride to Cordova.

    Results of Cordova Tourney: Thursday, Jan. 23rd, Ninilchik beats Grace Christian (3A)in overtime, 41-39. Amanda Matson leads the girls with 19 points and Whitney puts in two of the team's four overtime points, finishing the game with 13, incl. a 3 pt.goal. Kendra scores the team's winning shot - her only goal, but a crucial one to avoid another OT! Other scorers: Katie - 2, and Dieman - a 3 pointer.

    Friday: Ninilchik beats 3A Cordova 39-19. Whitney dumps in 22 points (incl. 3 three pointers) and Kelsey puts in 10 (incl. a three pointer). Amanda Matson is sidelined with the flu. Peterson scores 3, Katie - 2, Kendra - 2.

    Sat. Ninilchik wins over Glennallen, 47-31. Whitney pours in 25 points, incl. four three point goals. Kendra has a good game with 8 points. Other scorers for the night: Katie - 4, Amanda P. 2, Amanda M. 5, Kelsey - 3.

    This is Ninilchik's 8th straight win against Class 3A competition over the past two years. Ninilchik wins the tourney and Whitney is honored by being selected tourney MVP while Amanda Matson & Kelsey Deiman are selected for the All Tourney Team.


  • Jan. 28: at Nikolaevsk, 5 pm: Ninilchik wins 57-16. Whitney puts in 16, followed by Lauren Wolford with 9 points (3 three pointers). Other scorers: Emily and Amanda Matson scored 8 apiece, closely followed by Kelsey with 6, Katie M. and Kendra each scored 4 and Maria made a bucket.


  • Jan. 30: at CIA, 6 pm. Ninilchik overcomes CIA 52-20. Whitney puts in 18 (incl. a three); Kendra and Kelsey each put in 7; Katie - 6, Lauren - 5 (incl. a tre), Amanda - 4, Emily - a 3 pointer, and Maria makes a bucket.


  • Jan. 31: Seldovia here Varsity, 5 pm. Ninilchik wins 50-18. Seldovia's Jaime Gaegel is sidelined probably for the season w/ a torn miniscus, so she didn't play tonight which hurt the Otters. Whitney is hot tonight with 19, incl. three 3 pointers. Emily puts in 8, followed by Kendra with 6 and Amanda and Kelsey with four each. Others scorers for the evening: Lauren makes a three pointer and Katie, Maria and Courtney each score a bucket.


  • Feb. 11, at Homer (4A Homer's Endowment Game) 5 pm: Mariners get the best of the Wolverines 48-38. Whitney and several other players, battling the flu, just can't get the Wolverine energy going and on the contrary, Homer has a great offensive game. Whitney still puts in 21 pts.


  • Feb. 13-15, tourney at Nenana. Ninilchik beat SuValley 70-21, Anderson 63-11 and Seldovia 56-28 to win the tourney. Whitney is MVP.


  • Feb. 18, CCS here, 4 pm. Ninilchik wins 62-31. Whitney leads with 18, incl. a tre. Freshman Kendra M. puts in 11. Katie M. scores 9 and Amanda P. scores 8. Other scorers: Amanda M. and Emily both add five points; Kelsey gets a couple of baskets and Mindy makes a bucket.


  • Feb. 20, Lumen here, 4 pm: Lumen is held scoreless in the first quarter. Wolverines win 52-17 and everyone gets playing time. Whitney leads with 15, followed by even scoring from all team members. Amanda M. and Kelsey add 7 and 6 points respectively. Emily and Katie Rae put in five each. Kendra adds four points and Amanda P. and Lauren have three each. Mindy and Maria score a bucket apiece.


  • Feb. 21 & 22, at Seldovia: Wolverines overpower the Otters 51-25. Whitney outscores Seldovia by herself with 26 points. Other scorers: Kendra - 10, Amanda M.- 9, and Katie M., Emily and Kelsey - 2 each.


  • Feb. 25, Nikolaevsk here, 4 pm: Ninilchik wins 57-13 led by Whitney (19)inc. a tre, and Amanda Matson (14). Other scoring was even with Maria scoring 5, Amanda P. and Katie M. and Kendra each adding four. Emily, Kelsey, and Katie Rae each scored a basket and Courtney made a free throw.


  • Feb. 27, CIA here 4 pm: This was the last home game for our seniors, Maria, Whitney, and Kelsey, so flowers were presented as highlights and memories were recounted by Butch Leman. Kenny Rogers was also presented with a special bouquet for his years of service, as he is thinking of retiring next year.

    Ninilchik won the game 62-23, leading 26-6 at the half. Kelsey rocked with 18 points. Whitney had 16 points, including a couple of tres, followed by Amanda Peterson with 12. Other scorers: Kendra - 4, Emily and Amanda M. each had a 3 pointer, and Maria scored a bucket.

  • Mar. 7, at Lumen, noon: Won 49-12. Whitney leads with 20 points, incl. two 3 pointers. Amanda is hot with 14. Other scorers: Lauren scores a three pointer and a couple of baskets and Amanda P., Emily Wood, Hannah George, and Kelsey Deiman each make a bucket.

  • Mar. 14, 15, at Bristol Bay: Girls game broadcast on radio 620 am with Carl Pulliam announcing. Wolverines win first game 45-32 and 2nd game 52-34. In Friday's game, Whitney is high scorer with 27 points, including two 3 pt. baskets. Other scorers: Amanda M. with 6, Emily with 5, incl. a 3 pt. bucket, Kelsey - 3, and Amanda P., Katie, and Kendra all made a basket. In Saturday's game, Whitney was on track again, scoring 25 points which included a three pointer. Kendra had a great scoring night with 14. Other scorers: Emily - 3 points, Amanda M. - 4, Katie, Kendra, and Amanda P. with two each.

  • Details of the tourney games for Ninilchik:

    In Wednesday's game against Lumen Christi, Ninilchik allowed Lumen to score only 12 points and kept them scoreless the last quarter to win the game 71-12. Kelsey and Amanda tied with 13 points each followed by Whitney with 11. Lauren and Emily tied with 8 pts. each. Kendra bucketed 6 points while Hannah and Maria put away two baskets apiece. Contributing baskets were Amanda P. and Mindy. Three point baskets included in the above points were made by Kelsey (3) and Whitney, Lauren, Amanda M. and Emily all made two to combine for 11 three point buckets!!


    In Thursday's game against Unalaska (47-17), Whitney led all scorers with 18 points. Amanda M. made 8 while Kendra and Kelsey scored 6 each. Emily scored three and Amanda P., Katie, and Maria each made a basket. Kelsey made two 3 point buckets and Amanda M. and Emily each made one.


    Friday's game was the championship game against Bristol Bay (45-25). Whitney led all scorers with 14 and had to sit out some of 2nd half due to getting hacked while going up for a layup and injuring her thumb. Attempts to go back in were painful but she was still a trooper...that's my girl. Kelsey put in 11, and made the only three pointers for our team (2). Katie and Kendra, sisters, each contributed 7 points. Amanda P. made two baskets and Emily made one.

  • Mar. 27-29: State Tourney at Service High


    Results:

    Thursday's game: Ninilchik beats Angoon 55-27. They limited Angoon to only four points the entire second half. Amanda scored 15 followed by Whitney with 14. Other scorers: Kelsey - 8, Amanda P - 5, Katie - 1, Kendra - 4, Emily - 4, Mia - 2, and Mindy - 2. Pacific Motor's Player of the game: Amanda Matson.


    Friday's game: Ninilchik beats Point Hope 49-35. Whitney led her team with 25 points (incl. two 3 pointers) and that was sitting out most of a quarter with a twisted ankle. Other scorers: Amanda P - 4, Katie-3, Amanda M - 10, Kendra - 2, Kelsey - 5. It was a nailbiting rough intense game and many watching considered that the championship game. Point Hope always has a great team and they're always on our minds when we think of the state tourney. Player of the game: Whitney Leman.


    Saturday's Championship game: Ninilchik beats Unalakleet 44-26. Whitney is feeling it tonight with 28 points incl. three 3 pointers! Amanda M. kicks in 10 points. Other scorers: Kelsey - 5 and Emily - 1.


    Since Dan's been at the helm, he's amassed 303 wins/42 losses. He's been coaching high school ball since 1991.

    Whitney makes girl's basketball history by being the first Alaskan high school girl to be selected Player of the Year three years in a row!!


    Coach of the Year: Dan Leman (6th coaching award).
