Reds Win Second Strait

Reds 8 Cubs 7 (11innings)

The Cubs'' fourth error of the game was their most costly as third baseman Shane Andrews' throwing miscue in the bottom of the 11th inning allowed the Reds to rally for a 7-6 triumph.

After the Cubs took a 7-6 lead in the top of the 11th, Andrews doomed Matt Karcher(0-1) in the bottom half. Ken Griffey Jr., hit his 399th home run in the sixth, opened the inning with a walk and Hal Morris laid down a bunt. Andrews fired the ball down the right-field line, allowing Griffey to score the tying run all the way from first.

Pitcher Steve Parris ran for Morris at second base and moved up on Dante Bichette's groundout to the right side. Alex Ochoa, who doubled and homered earlier, took advantage of a drawn-in infield by ripping a single to left, scoring Parris with the winning run.

After starter Denny Neagle was hammered for six runs and eight hits over 5 2/3 innings, the Reds' bullpen allowed just an unearned run over the final 5 1/3. Danny Graves(2-0) got the victory, recording the final five outs.

Cubs rookie starter Scott Downs allowed three runs and five hits over 6 1/3 innings. But he walked six and surrendered a pair of homers.
