WP comp results for this year are not available on the internet

Hi Jay.
I have noticed that the WP comp results for this year are not available on the internet. The Grand West comp was this past weekend - 12/13 April. I checked for the results on the DanceSport site but nothing has been updated there.

Have you received any results to-date from the scrutineer?

Thanks, Anja

Ed

Anja, when DISA published the WP results for DanceSport we never had a problem. What puzzles me is that they have it neatly listed, but not linked - pointless. Let’s try sending this message to the officials responsible.

One thing I’ve learnt over the years is that Gauteng is definitely DanceSport’s pet area, I reckon it’s the wind in your town these officials dislike.

Need Ballroom help from your video instruction tape

Hi Jay,

Thank you very much. I received the video on "Run Your Own Social Dance Studio Professionally - Train Yourself At Home". But I need to ask for your help one more time. I've done prof. Latin but never ballroom so I'm a bit confused. How would I make a syllabus out of the steps. I'm not sure how to teach it as I've never done it before.

Do you have any ideas? Please help

Thank you so much, Natasha

Ed
First you would have to study the Ballroom section of the "hold & posture" of the "workshop" near the end of the tape. For social Ballroom, the couple need not stand too close to each other at first - almost a Latin hold.

To teach it, you would need to learn the individual steps (male & female) separately. Start with the basic (step #1) and progress to step #5. The first 5 steps in each dance is what we call the Copper level. Steps #6 to #10 = the Bronze level. Steps #11 to #15 = the Silver level, but concentrate on the Copper level until you have thoroughly mastered all 5 steps of this level. I suggest you use one of your male or female pupils as your guinea pig.

Let's say you know the first 5 steps of the 2-Step. Begin with the basic Forward & Back steps, and combined these 2 (the way it's demonstrated on the tape where all the steps, 1 to 10/15, are danced to music). Now add the Zig-Zag to the Forward & Back, then add the Side Basic, then the Basic Left Turn, etc. until you have all 5 steps of the Copper level set out in a routine that moves anticlockwise around the floor. And stick to routines. We have found that most learners remember routines better than individual steps, and as a teacher, it makes your job a whole lot easier.

A hint; when dancing anticlockwise around the floor be sure to start close to the wall, i.e. the outer edge of the room.  Once you're on your Line Of Dance (LOD) move around the dance hall in an anticlockwise direction; stick close to the circumference or outer edge of the floor. That way you have much more room to move. Ballroom couples who dance around the middle of the floor are stuck for space, and to get out of the eye of the cyclone is one heck of a job. So arrange your routine to flow close to the 4 walls of the room in an anticlockwise direction. Our demonstrations to music on your tape is a good example of how it should be done - copy it.

If you need more help just let me know.
