draft Tips
Most fantasy football leagues are won on draft day. While no one can accurately predict injuries and other events that may arise and affect player performances, getting a headstart on your league is as easy as understanding the importance of your draft. Following are a few tips that may aide you with your draft.
Do your homework! Make a lising of the top players for each position. Make your list long, most FFL drafts go deep into the player pool. Everyone can draft the first 3 rounds. A skilled fantasy team owner will know who he wants, and why, deep into the draft.
Know the rules of your league. Every league has different rules concerning scoring, trades, free agent pickups, etc. By understanding these rules you can avoid mistakes. Don't draft a guy who gets lots of yards but no TDs if your league doesn't reward you for it. Leagues aren't won by big name players, unless those players get you the points.
Don't rely on last years stats. It's better to get stats for the last several years. This better enables you to get a feel for a particular player's tendancies. Check on coaching changes and injuries, these factors may effect a players performance.
During the draft, watch how other teams are coming together. If your steepest competition, drafts Elway you may want to pickup Shannon Sharpe to equalize some of the points that your opponent gets when Johnny throws a TD.
Be aware of bye weeks. Don't put too many players from the same division onto your team. If you do, their bye week will kill you.
Don't put too many players from the same team on yours. You will find, that it's difficult for multiple players to score from the same team, it's better to spread things out. Then if one player has a bad week, hopefully your others won't.
When deciding between two players, you may look at teams schedules. With both players being equal, it's better to go with the weaker schedule.
