Jackie

Jackie Chan

Born: April 7, 1954
Where: Hong Kong

The key to Jackie Chan success is that he is different. While others were trying to be the next Bruce Lee, Jackie gained popularity for being himself. Bruce Lee would beat the living daylights out of anybody whereas Jackie beats on the bad guys and makes laugh at the same time. His fights seem sort of playful and friendly. His movies are like a real life cartoons and the acrobatic moves he pulls off makes you think you must be watching something drawn up by an artist. His martial arts are simply amazing. Not to mention he does his own stunts. So just when your about to say "that's so fake, how could anyone take jump off a cliff while snowboarding, catch a helicopter's landing skid in mid air, let go, fall 40ft and pludge into a freezing, ice covered lake, without gloves on!" remember- he really did that.

It's always a joy for me to watch somebody experience Jackie Chan for the first time. Usually people are in awe and wonder "where has this guy been all my life." Well he's been making movies, he's been in movies all his life. He was even an extra in Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon He holds the title of the most watched movies in the world, eventhough he did not received mass appeal in North America until his release of Rumble in the Bronx in 1995. Since then he has released SuperCop, First Strike, Operation Condor, Mr.Niceguy and in his next movie he'll be co-starring with the hilarious Chris Tucker. Of his newer movies so far, my favorite is SuperCop. If you like his newer movies, I strongly suggest you discover his classics from the 70's and 80's. They are sometimes hard to find and I must admit a few of them aren't that good. Fantasy Force Mission is the worst Jackie Chan movie I've ever seen. Other than this one blemish most of his movies are amazing. Some of his older stuff is more Bruce Lee like and doesn't have the stunts you would expect, but Jackie does still show off his unbelievable acrobatics and his exceptual martial arts skill. One of his best movies that I have seen is Police Story. This movie must hold the record for the most breaking off glass ever. The stunts are insane, the kungfu is non-stop, the story line is funny and boy does the glass fly. I still haven't seen so many of his movies, like a mentioned they're hard to find, but some I've heard good things about and I'm looking forward to seeing are: Armour of God, Project A, My Lucky Stars, The Druken Master, Meals on Wheels and Winners and Sinners."
