Performance Report

This report profiles the characteristics of Ridgecrest Elementary School and the Puyallup School District. Ridgecrest Elementary School serves grades K-6 and is one of 21 elementary schools in the Puyallup School District where enrollment was over 19,000 in the 1997-98 school year.


Mission Statement

We, the school community, commit ourselves to teaching the whole child. We desire to create an environment in which each child has the opportunity to learn and to develop his/her full potential. It is our goal to assist students in developing as persons capable of making responsible decisions, cooperating with others, and directing their lives effectively. We desire to instill an attitude that learning is an exciting, lifelong process.

Growth in basic academic areas, the arts, and physical education should occur through a well-planed curriculum, a positive learning environment, optimum use of learning time, a continuing process of evaluation, improvement of our teaching methods, and good communication with students and parents.


Our Staff

Ridgecrest has one administrator, one office manager, one secretary, 25 classroom teachers, and seven classroom assistants. Caucasians comprise 96% of the staff, while 4% are of Asian descent.


Principal's Message

Ridgecrest Elementary School has a long tradition of academic excellence and community involvement. It is common to see entire families participating in learning and school events and Ridgecrest. We have an excellent teaching and support staff, and are able to provide high-quality programs to meet the needs of all students.

The professional staff at Ridgecrest School is dedicated to your child's academic and personal success. At Ridgecrest School, in addition to strong basic skills, we teach respect for: all people, property, language and personal space. Many extracurricular activities are offered to enhance the children's complete educational experience.

Student Learning Improvement Grant

Our staff and community members designed a plan that allowed the Washington State Student Learning Improvement Grant funds to be used for staff development and implementation of the required state Essential Academic Learning Requirements. During the 1997-98 school year, the Ridgecrest plan included the following activities:

Facility Information

Ridgecrest Elementary School was built in 1981 on 7.27 acres of land. The facility contains 22 classrooms, three portable classrooms, a computer lab, a library, and a before- and after-school daycare program. Ridgecrest students utilize a covered playshed during stormy weather and a quarter-mile running track all year. Our school is one of the most utilized facilities in the district. Each day, anywhere from two to four community groups use the gym, library, or playfields.


Enrollment

Enrollment at Ridgecrest Elementary is 524 for the 1997-98 school year. The smallest class contains 20 while the largest has 29; the average class size is 24. We have one "English as a Second Language" student this year, and 17% of the student body qualifies for free/reduced lunches. Our attendance rate per day is 96.4%.

The Puyallup School District encompasses 55 square miles in Pierce County. It serves our community of approximately 95,000 residents with 21 elementary schools, six junior highs, two comprehensive high schools, and one alternative high school.
