Welcome to Burley in Wharfedale Middle School's Virtual Tour of Skipton Castle.

This virtual tour was first created by four Year 7 boys (aged 11/12). They started in February 1997 when they went on a school trip to the castle. They took the school's digital camera and took 32 photos. Back in school they put together a tour round the castle. This was put up onto the school's website and soon began to attract visitors from around the world.

In the next few months e-mails from visitors to the website began to arrive in school. Some of these e-mails can now be seen on the castle website. One of these emails came from the Microsoft website and in November 1997 a link from the Microsoft website to the castle web was set up. More and more e-mails arrived at school most with complimentary comments, some asking for further information and others suggesting improvements. A form for visitors to the site has now been included by the boys. This makes it easier to feedback information to the school.

In February 1998 this year's 7th Year went to Skipton Castle. They had already seen the virtual tour back at school. One class had the task of improving and adding more information to the original Virtual Tour.

It was decided to add some sound and six children took it in turns to hold a tape recorder in front of Jack Beck the Castle guide. It was a bitterly cold February day and their hands got cold! So if you have got Real Audio (Real Player) then you can click on "Jack's face" and hear his commentary and brilliant stories

....it is well worth it!!!

Having read some of the e-mails it was also decided to add a history of the castle, more information about the family that lived there, a glossary of castle words, some animations and a menu that took the visitor to each room without getting lost.

Have a look at The Virtual Tour of Skipton Castle Version 2.
