"I Giochi" - Touring show in 2000

Federation Show touring in 2001

The teaching of languages is widespread throughout Australian schools. In Victoria alone hundreds of schools teach LOTE. The demand for LOTE resources is so high amongst schools and teachers that the market has not been able to fulfil this supply. Some examples of the resource requirements are: literature, textbooks, video, cassette tape and drama for all age groups

Since 1987 Scenario has been providing a resource for teachers of LOTE. Initially it catered for the Italian language but soon expanded into other languages such as French, and German.

Scenario is the leader in multicultural and LOTE Theatre-in-education. It provides a resource, which is invaluable, not only for it textual merit, but for the enthusiasm and excitement which is generates. Scenario believes that this is the key factor in the initiation and perpetuation of learning across all ages groups.

Scenario performances introduce and explore aspects of language, culture and theatrical tradition. They are represented through a contemporary, accessible and exciting medium, in a manner, which encourages students’ continuing interest in foreign languages and theatre. The shows are created in consultation with teachers and cultural groups and provide fantastic opportunities for professional local actors from diverse backgrounds.

Prior to performances, upon confirmation of booking, schools are issued with a Teacher’s Kit and a cassette tape which serve to familiarise the students with the characters, language content, songs and story line.

When it comes to ShowTime the LOTE content is monitored by the actors and can very between 50% and 100% depending on teacher’s preference. The LOTE content is the focal point of every performance and is expressed in work, movement and song while introducing subtle devides such as repetition and translation. This process is enhanced through audience participation. Every attempt is made by the performers to involve the students in the action, and the humour and electricity, which is generated by the participants, is more than enough to help break down any barriers to learning. To add to the fun there is lots of colour and excitement with song, dance, puppets, mask, crazy characters, zany stories, slapstick and Commedia dell’Arte. All the elements which children love to become involved in are included, enabling them to take their enthusiasm for the language outside the community.classroom and into the community.
