Great news!! My friend Stacy and I have been praying this Thanksgiving would be an occassion for extra special thanks!! Well...today I went to Eckerds drug store and picked up a card welcoming new baby...a baby gift...wrapping paper..bows and an E.P.T. test!! Mark was on his was home and since the smell of the near by Burger King made me sick when I opened the door I knew before I even took the test it would be positive!! Mark came home to a gift and a card!! We are both very happy but cautious til the doctor confirms it!!

WE ARE CONFIRMED!! The new little Tuck is due July 18, 1999!!

Thursday, December 3, 1998
I really have no clue as to why they call it morning sickness!! I am sick 24/7!! Today I went to the doctor to see if he can give me any relief from this sickness!! He sent me to the hospital for 6 hours of IV fluids!!

Wednesday, December 9, 1998
My first OB visit!! I spent an hour with the nurse filling out forms and giving her my medical history!! Now to go pee and get weighed!! Now for the fun part!! Strip and try to relax!! Dr. Allen comes in and does the exam and then.....he does an ultra sound (vaginal) and I get to see you for the very first time and see your little heart beating!! Pro abortionists say at this stage (8 weeks 2 days) you aren't really a baby..I wonder have they ever seen an ultra sound with a beating heart!!

Wednesday, January 6, 1999
My second OB visit!! Today I heard your heartbeat for the very first time!! The nurse said it was early and they may not be able to pick it up!! She tried and tried and then Dr. Allen gave it a try!! I held my breath...so afraid it might not be there...then I heard you!! Tears of relief filled my eyes!! You may only be an inch or so big but I already love you so much!!

Went in for my AFP bloodwork today!! It was nothing like I expected *L* I was ready to give a few tubes but they only pricked my finger and took 5 drops!! The results should be back in about 7 days but I requested they hold the results til my next OB visit on February 5th, so Mark can be with me!! I don't expect bad results but it would be nice to have Mark there just in case!!

Wednesday, January 27, 1999
Dr. Gunther called today with the results of the AFP test!! There is no indication of spinal defects!! The percentages are higher than normal for Down Syndrome!! The only way to know for certain is to go ahead with an amnio!! They scheduled it for early Friday morning!! I am scared!!

Friday, January 29, 1999
I hardly slept at all last night!! Mark is on the road so he can't be with me today!! I am up a little after 5am!! NERVES!! I get showered and dressed and wait to leave!! I have to wait to sign in...then more waiting to be called back!! The technician does an extensive ultra sound, taking measurements, noting the baby's position, etc!! Dr. Allen comes in and talks to me about the procedure!! He notices my pale face and assures me I can still back out!! He reassures me the procedure is pretty safe and then we begin!! First he waits for the technician to locate a safe pocket of fluid...then he injects a little numbing medication at the area!! Feels kind of like a bee sting!! Then he inserts the long needle...stopping just before he ruptures the sac to let the technician make sure the baby has not moved!! Then with a firm push the needle goes through and the fluid is removed!! 3 days of raw nerves finished in less than 20 minutes!! Now all we can do is wait for the results!! I head home to stay off my feet for 48 hours!!

Thursday, February 4, 1999
Our 3rd OB visit!! No trouble finding your heart beat!! I measure out just fine!! I have been experiencing dizziness, fatique, thirtiness and bad headaches!! Dr. Pierce recommends a sugar and thyroid test!!

Friday, February 5, 1999
No breakfast and off for our sugar and thyroid test!! I had to drink this really sweet lemon lime concoction!! On an empty stomach, it was touch and go for a sec as to whether I could do it *L* By 9:45am the nurse draws my blood to send off!! More waiting!!

Friday, February 5, 1999
Late afternoon the lady from Genecare calls!! She confirms no spinal defects and NO DOWN SYNDROME!! And by the way!! It's another little boy!! *L*

Monday, February 8, 1999
Nurse calls to say sugar and thyroid normal!!

Friday, March 5, 1999 (my birthday)
Went for OB checkup and the doctor did a vaginal exam to see if there was any change in my cervix since I have a history of preterm labor!! Checked out fine but to be safe they will bring me back weekly from now on!! Also, Mark and I went to Chapel Hill to tour the Birthing Center!! I was very impressed!! They have a midwife on duty 24/7 and are backed up by UNC hospital!! Each room has a queensized bed and a huge garden tub if you desire a water labor!! I was also impressed by the birthing chair and labor ball!! I love the idea that they promote skin to skin contact, as opposed to hospital gown skin contact with the infant!! Also they do not rush to cut the cord...they allow it to stop pulsing!!

Friday, March 12, 1999
OK so we went in for our OB check-up...the doctor checked my cervix again and still fine!! I did have a trace of protein in my urine and was told to drink more fluids. I measured out bigger than I should have and gained five (5) pounds in one week!! I have to go in next Thursday for an ultrasound!!

Saturday, March 13, 1999
Not a good morning this morning....woke up sick and I broke out in a red rash around my eyes. Had my blood pressure checked by a friend of mine that is a nurse...she said I may have a hemoglobin problem. If it persists I will call my OB!!

Thursday, March 18, 1999
I went in for my ultra sound. Everything measured out within a few days of where I should be!! According to my records I was 22 weeks and 4 days but measured out at 23 weeks 1 day!! The doctor says there is no reason for concern and they will not be changing my due date!!

Friday, March 26, 1999
I had to cancel my OB appoinment today!! My 2 year old was very sick!!

Thursday, April 1, 1999
I had to cancel this appointment too!! They had me scheduled to do another sugar test which requires I sit still for 1 hour!! Since I had no sitter for my 2 year old that was out of the question!!

Tuesday, April 6, 1999
Saw Dr Pierce for my OB check-up!! He said everything looks just fine!! Since my cervix hasn't shown any changes he feels it will be OK to begin coming in every two weeks unless something happens!! I will have my cervix checked each time from now on..."Oh joy!!" I told him Sutton was not as active as my other babies and he told me unless he moves less than 10 times a day there is nothing to be concerned about!!

Thursday, April 7, 1999
The nurse called to say my sugar test came back normal!!

Friday, April 8, 1999
Why is there are days you wished you didn't have to get out of bed but when you are ordered to bed, all you want to do is get up!! Started having some pretty hard contractions!! No change in my cervix but doctors felt it would be safer to put me to bed :(!!

Tuesday, April 20, 1999
Still having contractions!! Checked again but no change, thank goodness!! Back home to lay down!!

Tuesday, May 4, 1999
Over the weekend I had some pretty hard and steady contractions in the morning and evening!! Doctor checked and said there was no significant change but I was to go home, lie down on my left side, drink at least 8 glasses of liquids a day and call if the contractions continue!! Now my question is this: How do I lie down while I get up to get 8 glasses of something to drink and then have to get up repeatly to go potty!! *LOL*

Tuesday, May 18, 1999
Went for my OB appointment and usual cervix check!! The baby's head is down and has dropped!! I am to continue on bedrest!! The doc says if I can hold out 3 more weeks they won't stop my labor!! So we could be holding Sutton in 3 more weeks!!

Tuesday, June 1, 1999
I had an appointment for 3:15 to see Dr Pierce but he was held in surgery so I had to see Dr Wolen!! She noticed I was having contractions and had me put on a monitor!! She read me the riot act about resting and drinking lots of fluids and let me go home with instructions to call if things picked up...if not I was to come back the next morning at 9:45 to be checked!!

It is approximately 11pm June 1st!! My contractions are getting regular and harder!! I call the doctor and I am sent to the hospital to an observation room in labor and delivery!! There has been a big change in my cervix!! I am 60% effaced and dialated 2 centimeters!! They first try forcing fluids by IV to stop the contractions...no help!! Next I get 2 shots of trabutaline!! No effect..so out come the big guns!! I get magnesium!! It felt like an elephant sat on my chest and a bon fire was set!!

Wednesday, June 2, 1999
At around 2am this morning they move me to the LBR and get set up for little Sutton to arrive!! The doctor has told me at this point Sutton could be in big trouble and may need intensive care for as long as 2 months!! I am a wreck!! I recieve the 1st of 2 steroid shots to help his lungs!! I continue to contract through out the day even with the magnesium but thank God my cervix is not changing!!

Thursday, June 3, 1999
Well early this am I had my second steroid shot!! The doctors feel a little better about Sutton's chances and are even going to slowly turn the mag off to see how I do!! Well I don't make it an hour before they turn it back on!! The plan is to turn it back off at 2am Friday morning and let him deliver if that is what happens!! The pediatrician has a fit and has them agree to wait til 7am Friday morning so the nursery staff will be at 100% if they have to deal with a premie!!

Friday, June 4, 1999
They turned the mag off finally and this time I am still contracting but not regularly!! They decide to observe me the rest of the day and if all goes well I can go home Saturday!! I feel like a human pin cushion...between the IV, the trabutaline shots, steroid shots and all the blood draws to check my mag levels!! I will be glad to get home...I am a little scared since Mark will be leaving out again Monday and kinda wish Sutton had come but at the same time I am grateful for the extra time so I know he will be able to come home with me!!

Tuesday, June 8, 1999
Saw Dr. Allen today...no change from last Friday...still hanging in there!!

Friday, June 11, 1999
Woke up this morning having contractions...not too bad...around 6pm they become harder!! Mark is on his way back from Alabama...he wants me to go to the hospital but I will try and wait for him!! Mark gets home by 3am...he showers and we head to the hospital...my contractions are so hard I can hardly walk!! I get to the LBR...get on the monitor and the contractions space out :(...they observe me til 7am and send me home!!

Tuesday, June 15, 1999
Went for my OB visit...I am exhausted, the contractions have not stopped...they come every 10 to 15 minutes but not regular and according to my exam not really making any changes...I am now 3 centimeters and 60% effaced!! This Sunday I will be 36 weeks!!

Tuesday, June 22, 1999
Made it to 36 weeks!! Checked out fine today...I am between 3 and 4 centimeters and 50% effaced. When the doctor measured my tummy, he looked puzzled and went on to mash around feeling the baby!! He looked over at my 2 year old son and asked how much he weighed!! I told him 7 pounds 8 ounces!! He asked if this baby felt bigger and I said I had been thinking so and he said I believe you are right!! UGH!! I hope not more than a pound!!

Around 3pm I felt this little gush...I was on the phone with Mark, and he was telling me he was on his way to Maryland!! I called the office and ran in for a quick check!! False alarm thank goodness!! *embarrassed blush* Dr says it must have been a bladder spasm!!
