One of the coolest things about the Worldwide Web is the instant gratification of finding information with just a click of the mouse. Listed below is a collection of miscellaneous links of helpful information:

Images

American Memories: http://memory.loc.gov/ Collections of American memoribilia, mostly pictures.

ClipArt Connections: http://www.clipartconnection.com/ This site has lots of free gif and jpg files available for downloading.

News Links

Webopedia explains the USENET very well as the Internet Bulletin Board. The link to info on the can be found in this SubSection LINK at: http://webopedia.internet.com/TERM/U/USENET.html . Webopedia mentions Deja News as an excellent place to go for news and info.

The CNET: http://www.cnet.com/ site seems to be the more popular place for technical news these days.

But you can also go to more traditional locations like the Wall Street Journal site http://www.wsj.com.

I have found it very useful in this class to go to the Hyper News Forum: Hyper News Forum: www.hypernews.org/HyperNews/get/mw3/summer98.html" Area for students in our class to post messages and receive online info and notification from the class instructor.

Kids Links

Disney.com Www.disney.com has info about everything that is disney. It is not totally geared to kids, but there is cool stuff there for them besides the vacation planning and movie info. For example: if you get into the Radio Disney section you can find out all about what's going on with the DJ's.

Nickelodeon Www.nick.com is geared to kids and has games and information about the TV channel on cable called Nickelodeon.

Pokemon Www.pokemon.com is the latest craze with kids these days. There are 150 Pokemon and the kids are into remembering what they are and what they do. This site has info about the favorite pokemon characters as well as info on the coolest Pokemon toys and gadgets. Doing a search in Yahoo for Pokemon will yeild the following list of many more sites to browse http://search.yahoo.com/bin/search?p=Pokemon.

Video Links

One way to find specific types of info is to go to the search site called "HOTBOT" at http://www.hotbot.com/ . When you go here you can specify any variety of combinations of subject and file type. The Links below were found this way...

www.worldartsinc.com/2000_20.avi

Audio Links

These links were also found using the "HOTBOT" website.

Batman Wave
Click here if you are pompous This comes from www.dailywav.com "Every weekday I'll be bringing you another .WAV file for your listening/downloading pleasure, and do the occasional "grab bag" on the weekends"

Gopher Links

gopher.inet-serv.com/gopher.htm

FTP Links

Most companies have a location where their customers can go to get files directly. It is called an ftp site and is qualified with the letters, "ftp" instead of "http". You often have to have a logon and password to get into this site, for example: when you have a web address at Geocities it will allow you to "get" and "put" files in your own directory only.

Geocities FTP Site: ftp://ftp.geocities.com/ Place to go for to manage your own files as a homesteader at Geocities.

Candle FTP Site: ftp://ftp:candle.com/ The customer support department will provide fixes to customers by sending them to this site with a special logon ID to pick up a software fix.

Microsoft FTP site: ftp://ftp.microsoft.com

Web Server Directories

The number of Web Servers is quickly, but Yahoo has an excellent directory of all types of Servers for use on many types of platforms including MVS: http://www.yahoo.com/Computers_and_Internet/Software/Internet/World_Wide_Web/Servers/ . Another good source is WebServer Compare at: http://webcompare.internet.com/ . More info can be found by doing a search on Webopedia for "Web Servers".

Map Links

One of the coolest map sites around is MAPQUEST at http://www.mapquest.com/ . Just about everything and anything can be found at this site!

CGI Links

Not quite sure what a CGI Post Link is (search engine query), but I did a search on CGI in Webopedia and got the following results regarding CGI: http://webopedia.internet.com/TERM/C/CGI.html . By the looks of it CGI stands for Common Gateway Interface and is the mechanism to use in receiving data from the web and sending it to another external file. Apparently this is not the most efficient method of transporting data anymore, with preferable methods being Java applets, Java Script and Active X controls which are client based rather than server based as CGI is.
