         Polycarp
                 69-155 A.D.
Polycarp was born in 69 A.D.. We know very little about his life. We do know that he was a disciple of Saint John the Apostle and Bishop of the Catholic Church in Smyrna in what is know Izmir, Turkey. He was also a famous teacher. He respected tradition and loved sound doctrine.

Polycarp is remembered for his glorious martyrdom. Before he died he said, "For eighty-six years I have served Christ and he has done me no wrong. How can I blaspheme against my king who saved me?" Before the fire was set he looked up to heaven and said a prayer thanking God for letting him be a martyr. We celebrate his feast day on February 23rd.
