Shadows

by Jen Crim

Cast out amongst the shadows
Peering out from the prisom gates
alone, bewildered, and frightened.
My state so unkind and deceiving
no one dares look my way.
Fallen astray from that which I love, called life.
Enclosed in a growing vast darkness
My strength weakened, my will torn away
Simple, joyful things alas a burden.
I weap for the sights I have seen
And those I have not.
Tears aimlessly streaking my face
for I am cast out amongst the shadows.
