The Marijuana Trip by Clarah Hallstein 01 January 1993 Before it was over, someone was dead. Just one more cookie, one more chew - and now me boyfriend is gone. Oh why did I take him there in the first place! It was New Year, about 02:30 that morning, when my friends Leon and Glynn came to my place, to "view", they said. My flat is right at the very top of Trianon Mansions, overlooking the bay. We chatted a while, and then decided to see what's going on in town. I phoned Rudi so that he can come with us. After some cool innocent partying we decided to take the long road.Rudi wasn't too keen, but he didn't want to feel out. He didn't want no shot, but agreed to take the juice, which Leon heated in a spoon over his Bic Lighter. Glynn soon got stoned and travelled thus for some two hours - I've never seen her out for so long. Leon gave me a sticker, but I said it's no use on me, so he gave me a shot in my side - like Jesus, mind you. When I woke an hour later I found myself half naked on the floor, and Leon stood at the window grinning like a cat with cream. Glynn was still out, but Rudi seemed to be waking up. Though through his euphorian trip he must have had quite a jump, I pulled my clothes on, so as not to offend him. 'Twas his first time, but he seemed to take it well. I crawled up to him and laid my head on his lap. "You smell strange," he said to me, and I knew that it was Leon's he smelled, but I lied to him and said "Your nose will deceive you, you're not ready to get up yet." Some time later when Glynn was coming back, Leon went to the kitchen to fix some coffee, the stuff in it makes you awake. Glynn was up and about soon after, and Rudi was fighting off a migraine. Leon gave him a Disprin, and he soon cleared. The sun was coming up by then, and the two started making excuses for leaving. It took them some while though, but when they were gone, Rudi came to me. We tried to make love, but I could feel Rudi wasn't really into it. He didn't even enter me, but fell to himself soon. "What's wrong, Pal?" I tried to cheer him up, but he shoved me away. "Come on, man," I started again, but he refused. So I let him be. After a while he spoke up. "You made me a bimbo," he accused, "and how am I ever going to live with myself?". I tried to calm him, but he wouldn't listen. After all, he only had one sip. "Will God ever forgive me?" he moaned. "God always forgives," I said, quoting from morning mass, "You'll be alright. You'll probably get to say three Marys and three Our Fathers." But he didn't cheer up. The next day when I phoned him to come over, he said not to bother. The guilt seemed to get him. I hoped in my heart he feared the Reaper, but that Sunday the writing was on the wall. He phoned me to "say good bye". What for, I asked, but he wouldn't say - just cried. I knew then. We learn from our mistakes. |
