Elcista's Book Nook

Are you familar with the "Anne" books? It all started with Anne of Green Gables, the first in a series of books by L.M. Montgomery following the humerous, sometimes sad but most often hilarious adventures of a little orphan girl named Anne (with an "e") Shirley.

Here is a list of the current books about Anne Shirley and a little description of each.

Anne of Green Gables Book #1
A red headed orphan with an eye for adventure and a heart that craves love, she is Anne Shirley. This book will win your heart. With a nice and gentle side yet she has a side that will make you laugh so hard that your sides will hurt from her misadventures. First in the series.

Anne of Avonlea Book #2
The continuing story of the Anne Shirley you have come to love. No longer the akward mischevious little girl she had once been, though still having the knack of finding herself in peculiar situations. Follow Anne through her teen years and experience the world in Anne's unique way.

Anne of the Island Book #3
She's greeting a new school and new adventures but saying goodbye to dear family and friends. She's off to Redmond College with hopes in her heart and tears in her eyes as she waves goodbye to dear Avonlea. One of the many surprises that lies ahead is a marriage proposal by "the worst guy imaginable".

Anne of Windy Poplars Book #4
Anne is off to teach High School in a town where the Pringles are bound to make her life difficult. The Pringles are wealthy snobs and don't take kindly to strangers. Will Anne, the "orphan girl" be able to succeed in her dream of being a teacher in a town where she isn't welcome?

Anne's House of Dreams Book #5
This book tells of the first few years of married life for Anne and Gilbert in Four Winds Harbor on Prince Edward Island. You will meet a variety of new people in this book including Ms. Cornelia Bryant, a woman that speaks from her heart and mind who hates men and Methodists. This book has everything I look for in a book...comedy, tragedy and romance.

Anne of Ingleside Book #6
After moving from their house of dreams, Anne finds herself with 6 adorable children in a mansion style house. Anne is afraid that the romance has gone out of her marriage. She feels Gilbert is neglecting her after he forgets their 15th anniversary. Will she be able to rekindle the romance and salvage their marriage?

Rainbow Valley Book #7
The Blythe children have a special place to call their own. In a secluded little hideout they make plans with their neighbor children to keep a runaway girl name Mary from being sent back to the orphanage. Along with the problem of how to save Mary, they must also figure out a way to save an old Rooster from becoming dinner.

Rilla of Ingleside Book #8
Will this family be able to survive the agony and unknowns of the war that lies ahead? In this final book of the series (although there is another book containing short stories involving this family) find out how they cope with the consequences of war.

Complete Boxed Set
This set is complete with all 8 books listed above. A wonderful way to enjoy all of the books without having to order each book individually.

The Road to Yesterday
This book has continuing stories of Anne and her family that aren't included in the series. Although it isn't actually part of the 8 book series, it is a wonderful book. It contains stories about them that would have occured somewhere during the time of the books 5 through 8 and after. It is a collection of some of Gilbert's favorite stories.

They are all wonderful books. I have read them over and over again until the pages and covers are worn thin. My 2 favorites of all of them are Anne of the Island and Anne's House of Dreams. If you enjoy curling up in a chair with a great book, be sure to check these out.
