A Brief Biography of Taz
The Tasmanian Devil is the youngest of the Warner Bros. classic cartoon
characters. Baroque enough that there should be such a cartoon
character as a Tasmanian Devil; a name would just be excess baggage,
hence, he is known simply as "Taz".
Taz has now become one of the most popular in the entire Looney Tunes
gallery. Taz made his premiere appearance in "Devil May Hare" in
1954 which was directed by Bob McKimson. Ed Selzer, the Warner supervisor,
forbade Mr. McKimson to bring him back for any more encores after his premiere
appearance. Jack Warner liked the little devil and asked when there
would be another Taz cartoon. Selzer had to rescind the original
order and more Tasmanian Devil cartoons were planned.
When Mel Blanc began to develop a voice for this new character, he
asked, all innocence, "What does he sound like?" and was told, "Nobody
has ever heard one." So he was compelled to ad-lib some kind of glottal-guttural
gravelly gargle, now lovingly described as "Taz-speak."
Down below is a Taz song
TAZ'S FRIDGE
(London Bridge)
Taz's fridge is falling down, falling down, falling down
Baby Taz has knocked it down
Hungry Baby
Take the fridge and prop it up, prop it up, prop it up
Take the fridge and prop it up
Sad, sad baby
Lock it up with iron bars, iron bars, iron bars
Lock it up with iron bars
Mad, mad baby
Iron bars he'll bend and break, bend and break, bend and break
Iron bars he'll bend and break
Bad, bad baby
Taz's fridge is falling down, falling down, falling down
All the food is on the ground
Glad, glad baby
