I first thought up Heather Whitney when I was much younger. I didn't so much as call her that, but whenever my cousins and I played 'Trek' I used to be a young woman who was unheard of on the actual television show. After I got hooked on Voyager fan fiction and started to write my own, it became hard not to write in a character who I could create soley for my own purpose and give him or her a unique personality and character profile. So I wrote Heat Wave, and contained a new character: Lieutenant Heather Whitney, senior science officer of the USS Voyager. I didn't post the story where she made her debut in the Delta Quadrant until 1998, almost a year after I first posted Heat Wave. Since then, I have written over a dozen vignettes, stories, series, or round robins with her as a character, adding her in as a senior officer (what would you expect? =P)
Now, in various stories, Heather Whitney plays the part of a lieutenant serving as Voyager's senior science officer, who came onboard shortly after the episode Swarm. Her close friends include Tom Paris (who she knew at the Academy), B'Elanna Torres, and Harry Kim.
When I first "created" Whitney, I hadn't heard the term 'Mary Sue' before. I guess you could sort of use that term to describe her, but frankly I don't think she is. See, I never invented Whitney to be like me. If anything, we're quite different. Take your pick, though! E-mail me at JaneG100@rocketmail.com.

Paramount owns the properties and characters
of the television show Star Trek: Voyager. I am merely borrowing them for
my own personal amusement. In short: please don't sue!! :-) I own the properties
and character of Lieutenant Heather Whitney. Everything else belongs to
Viacom and Paramount, but she's mine, all mine... Mwahahaha! *evil laugh*
