Cadette Challenge

Section #1: Knowing Myself Better

We selected two activities from Chapter 3: 1) Activity on self esteem, answering the questions about accomplishments and qualities about themselves. 2) The Body Image quiz.

Secondly, we made a list of qualities you value in a friend and checked off their own qualities. Then they chose one or two that they wanted to work on having and did so for four weeks at least.

Section #2: Relating to Others Better

We selected two activities from Chapter 4: 1) We made a list of the roles we have in our daily lives, i.e., student, sister, child, band member, friend, choir member, etc. and wrote down the responsibilities that go along with that role. 2) Compared sibling relationships in different families. Looked at the youngest, oldest, 2nd oldest, and with various numbers of siblings--anywhere from one to five. 3) Role played some of the family conflicts in the chapter, and the "Lost Earrings" situation.

Also, two of us planned and carried out a co-ed party.

Section #3: Developing Values for Living

We read the section on values and did the activity on exploring attitudes, values, and interests in the handbook and did the value rank activity.

We read the sections on prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimintation. We role played a mock city council meeting discussing discrimination in our city. We thought that a cultural awareness festival and music festival would help others learn about our differences.

Section #4: Contributing to My Community

Two of us helped to plan and run booths at a church festival for younger children.

Two of us served as an audiovisual assistant for our church for a month.

Section #5: Knowing About Girl Scouting

Several participated in our service unit's efforts to attract new girls to scouting.

Since we had some new girls to scouting in our troop, we read about Juliette Low from the handbook. We shared other things we knew about her life with the other girls in our troop that are new to scouting.
