I enjoyed your website. I am preparing a Life Care Plan for a little one-year old girl with Spina Bifida. Her myelomeningocele was at L-5/S-1. Hello, We saw the dateline show the week before we found out our boy has sb. Because of that info we were able to ask our parinatologist about fs4sb. To make our long story short we were #7 at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia. They operated at 23 wks, deli ered at 36 wks, and took our boy Davis home after 2 wks in the NICU. Whenever we hear someone say they are telling their story in order to help one person we think about the fact that you are the family that told your story and helped our family. We were excited to realize we could link via the onelist because we real y just want to say "thank you".

God Bless your little Ana! My grandson, Adam, was born March 18, 1999 with SB. He has a shunt, and has to be cathed every four hours. He can move his right leg quite a bit and his left leg a little. We don't know yet if he will walk. My son and daug ter-in-law looked into this fetal surgery and decided against having it feeling it was too risky. I know it was a very hard decision for them. We love our little Adam very much and hope and pray he will have a happy, satisfying life and we wish the same for you. I hope that you and Ana are doing well! Your story is extremely inspiring! My sister had spina bifida, and later developed severe scoliosis. Unfortunately, she died when she was six (in 1972) after she had surgery to put rods in her back. Ana is livin proof of the kind of technology that exists today, and of how lucky we all are that such technological advances have been achieved. o glad I found you. LIke little Ana I was also born with Spina Bifida. I know you probably won"t believe this but I will be 68 years young in Oct. i am a paraplegic due to the birth defect but was able to bear 4 beautiful daughters/and have 3 grandchild en. I am incontinent so must wear a bowel and urine bag.They are very convient for me to take care of. I had my spine closed at 5 days of age and my parents were told I would live about 2 years. Guess they were a quite a few years wrong and probably passed away now! They also said I would never sit up,be hydrocephlic and be retarded.This never happened. I really had the greatest parents in the world. They motivated me and treated me ike my normal brother and sister. At 7 years of age I had corrective surgery On my right hip and both legs so I could be fitted with waist high braces and given crutches.I walked with them till I was 21 years old then had to use a whellchair because I w s pregnant and couldnt blance my body in this condition. I been in the chair ever since because of more children and its just more practable. Oh,I spent 3 hours around trip on a school bus for 12 years to get a high school education. I graduated at 18. In closing I just want to say have faith in the Lord and motivate little ANA to do all she can.

I heard about your story on Dateline, unfortunately I did not see it. Hopefully, it will be shown again. My little girl, Megan, was born with Spina Bifida. She arrived six weeks early and weighed 4lbs.15oz. She will soon be 7 years old. We did not kn w that she had Spina Bifida until she was born. I had an ultrasound done a few days before her birth but it was not detected. I just wanted to let you know that I think what you did for your little girl was wonderful. Hopefully, it will make a big diff rence in her quality of life. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and sometimes it is hard to know why certain things happen but God never gives us more than we can handle. Special needs children are indeed "special" and your littl girl will bring you more joy than you can ever imagine. God bless you and your little angel and I wish you all the best in the years ahead.

I dont know what to say except this touched my heart. I too have SB except i have a different form of it. Mine is called SB Occulta I look very normal and no one would even know. Although recently i have gone thru 2 more back surgeries and have since ost bladder and bowel control and have lost my ability to run. I am not sure why God allows some of us with SB to be more normal than others, but i do know that we all have this defect for a reason and your stroy really touched my heart. My sweet baby, Alexi, was born with a minor form of Spina Bifida...I can truly understand the pain you felt when you discovered that your sweet pea had spina bifida. However, as you' e probably realized, it does get better. The joy you will feel as you watch her accomplishments will be overpowering. Best wishes on your sweet little bundle of joy. Al, Karen & Ana, The three of you in my opinion, are hero's. You are traveling an uncharted road so that hopefully, sometime in the future, people like Dr. Bruner can have 100% success with the in-utero surgery. Had it been around ten years ago, I would have done the same thing, had I known about Jamie. You guys make one terrific looking family! Ana, so many people waited for you to get here, and you are surrounded by so much love, there will never be anything that you will not be able to accomplish... he world is yours baby, take it and run!
