Growing Pains Michaela stood in the door way of Colleen’s now baren room. Her bed was still made the same way Colleen had left it. Her clothes still folded inside the brown stained wood dresser that Sully had especially made for her. This room held many memories in it. Michaela couldn’t help being disappointed knowing that soon, this room would no longer have any of those objects in it. “Michaela, are ya comin to bed?” sully asked as he put his arms around her waste while resting his chin lightly on her shoulder. “Yes, Sully, I’m coming.” She leaned back on his chest and wiped a tear from her eye. “ I know it’s not easy to see a child leave. We all will miss her. But that's apart of growin up." “It seems like just yesterday that she came to live with me and learn to become a doctor. Now she’s married and practicaly a doctor.” Michaela said as she thought about the past. “She’ll be home in two weeks to visit. Then we will have to think what we can do with this room.” Sully told her. “Let’s not think about that yet Sully. I want to keep Colleen with me as long as I can, even if she isn’t in this room anymore.” “Alright. Now how about we go and get some sleep? It’s gettin’ late.” Sully said as he kissed her neck and rubbed his hands up and down her back. “I don’t know, Sully. I’m not tired. In fact, I’m very much awake!” Michaela replied with a sly grin on her face. “Me either. I know somethin’ else we could do instead of sleep.” Sully knew what Michaela meant and played along. He kissed her longer and more passionately this time. After he broke off the kiss, he lead his wife by the hand into their room. Sully woke to the sun starting to stream into their bedroom. Michaela was still sleeping. Sully couldn’t comprehend how beautiful his wife was. Everyday she become more beautiful in his eyes. He wanted to let her sleep but couldn’t resist the temptation of kissing her. “Hmmm.. good morning!” Michaela quietly said as she slowly opened her eyes. “I wouldn’t mind waking up that way more often.” “Mornin’ you can go back to sleep, I can go and make breakfast.” “That’s alright, Sully. I’m wide awake after that wake up call. We both can make breakfast.” “Sounds like a plan to me,” Sully said with a smile. “Mornin’ Sully, Ma.” Brian said as he decended the stairs. “Mornin’ Brian.” Sully said back to him as he sipped some coffee. “Good morning, Brian, breakfast is on the stove. Help yourself.” Michaela instructed him as she spooned eggs into Katie’s wide open mouth. “Sully, do you think I could take Taffy into town this morning? I kinda want to get to school early today.” Brian asked as he gulped some fresh milk. “I don’t see why not, as long as you take it easy and tie her up over by the clinic or by Robert E.” Sully told him while eyeing Michaela for some sign of her agreeing. She did. “Thanks, I better go now. I will see ya this afternoon.” With that said, he kissed Michaela and ran out the door. “What was that all about?” Mike asked as she set Katie on the floor to play. “I’m thinkin’ that it has to do with a certain girl by the name of Sara.” Sully told her with a smirk on his face. “They grow up way too fast, Sully,” Michaela sighed. “That’s the way of life, Michaela. We got ta accept. One thing is for sure, they always come back home to the ones they love. There is no doubt about that.” He gave her a kiss on lightly on her forehead. “You’re right, Sully. What would I do with out you?” She asked as she returned the kiss. Michaela walked into the telegraph office as soon as she got into town "Good morning Horace. How are you today?" She asked him "Oh, mornin Dr. Mike. I'm doing well. I got some letters for ya, they just arrived too." Horace replied as he handed her a couple of letters. "Thank you Horace." She said as she walked out of the telegraph office with the letters in one hand and Katie in the other. She walked into the clinic and set Katie in her crib. She quickly sat down and started to look over the letters; one from Colleen and the other was one she had been waiting for. She ripped that one open right away. Michaela quickly scanned the letter with a huge grin on her face. Once, she was done reading it, she folded it back up while looking at the clock on the wall. Michaela opened one of her side drawers and placed the letter in it. As she started to read the letter from Colleen, someone knocked on the door. "Come in!" Michaela said as she continued reading. "I'm not interrupting anything am I, Michaela?" "Of course not Sully! We received a letter from Colleen today and I was just reading it. School is keeping her busy. She misses everyone and sends her love. She is looking forward to coming back home." She told Sully. CONTINUED |
