WHAT IS
OPERATION SNOWBALL?
Operation Snowball is an alcohol and other drug use prevention program focusing on leadership development to empower youth to lead drug-free lives. The name originates from the idea that "If I have a positive impact on you, you can have a positive impact on someone else and the effect snowballs." Out of this concept emerges "A community of caring" - the success of Operation Snowball. Operation Snowball is founded on the belief that youth and adults can make responsible decisions when provided with factual information and an opportunity to develop an understanding of one's self and motivations. The program provides opportunities for youth and adults to work together in a spirit of cooperation to plan, implement and evaluate a community-based alcohol and other drug prevention program.
"OPERATION SNOWBALL IS THE MOST DYNAMIC PREVENTION PROGRAM AVAILABLE TO OUR YOUTH."
HAMMOND SNOWBALL
The Hammond Chapter of Operation Snowball started in 1986. Our program has touched the lives of many teenagers and has changed many lives. Many of the high school graduates have gone on to pursue careers in social work. Snowball is run by volunteers, both teens and adults. Students are trained to be leaders and role models for their peers. The best part of this program is the friendships that are formed and the unconditional acceptance that is displayed. Teens relate to and help each other realize that they are not alone and that there are people who care.

Hammond Snowball meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at Eggers Middle School from 7-8:30 pm.

Lock-ins are held each October and April.
