Folktale Rewrites

Lesson 2

Description: Students will create their own Folktales using the elements of a story and include a moral at the end of their tale.

Outcomes: CA Standards Writing 1.0, 2.0 Students will write Folktales and illustrate their tales using the writing process and technology as a way to collaborate with students around the world.


Students will:

  1. Become exposed to many types of Folktales from many countries  using the internet.
  2. Discuss and select the elements of Folktales around the world and identify similarities
  3. Create and share original folktale with students .

Online Activities:

Research a variety of sites that will expose them to Folktales and activities involving Folktales found on the internet.Students will publish their work on the web.

Off-line Activities:

Students will work in groups to determine the qualities that make a good Folktale. They will discuss and list similarities. Students will create their own Folktales and illustrate it.

Description of Collaborative Activities: Write to young Folktale authors through web page contacts. Share work with the class as a dramatic interpretation.

Assessment: Portfolio as determined by the unit rubric (See cover page)
