Folktale Editorials

Lesson 4

Description: Students will write an editorial using a folktale character as a basis. 

Outcomes: CA Standards: 1.0, 2.0 Demonstrate correct mechanics as well as order and structure in their writing.

Students will:

  1. Chose a character from a folktale they have read.
  2. Decide how that character would react to the story's ending.
  3. Write an editorial to the Folktale Gazette expressing the character's view (their thoughts and feelings) on either the folktale or a previous editorial.
  4. Use prewriting, drafting, and revision skills before publishing.
  5. Read published paper to class.

Grade Level Ranges: 6th through 8th grades
Materials: Computers, Internet connectivity, paper, and pencil

Off-line Activities:   Students compose and revise the editorials

Online Activities: Publish and read other editorials

Description of Collaborative Activities: Students will peer edit class editorials and read stories aloud in groups.

Assessment: Portfolio as determined by the unit rubic (See cover page)
