Folktale Crossword Puzzle

Lesson 8

Description: Read a folktale and make up word definitions to be entered into a crossword puzzle.

Outcomes: CA Standards: Reading 2.0

Students will: 

 

  1. Read a folktale.
  2. Write 10 or more words, and their definitions, on an e-mail or word processing program. For example:
    HENRY=John __________ was a steel driving man.
  3. The word that goes in the Crossword is in all capitals. Put in an = sign then provide a definitions.
  4. Send the e-mail OR send the word processing file attachment to an e-mail.

Subject Areas: Reading
Grade Level Ranges: 6th through 8th grades
Materials: Computers, word processing or e-mail, Assortment of Folktales.

Off-line Activities: Students determine 10 words and definitions from Folktales they have read.

Online Activities: Students will use other students crossword puzzles via the internet.

Description of Collaborative Activities: Students will try to decipher other student made puzzles.

 Assessment: Successfully create and complete an online crossword puzzle.
