July 7 1998 Update

Today was Kevin’s last radiation treatment - HIP HIP HOORAY!!! He was excited and sad at the same time. He received a Super Patient certificate from the Radiation Oncology Staff for being a great patient and bring smiles to all of their faces. As he left the Center with his ‘mask’ in hand, lots of hugs were given and he promised them that he would enjoy the rest of the summer.

Dean and I treated him to lunch (pizza, of course), a movie and dinner at Hooters (it must be a guy thing) and topped it off with an ice cream sundae.

We are so proud of him and his accomplishments this far. He has gone through 30 radiation treatments without a complaint....he even offered to have brain surgery again just so he could go back to the Radiation Clinic..!! We told him that we would just go and visit.

The next step is a follow-up MRI in August 4 and a Dr. appointment on August 6 to see what the radiation has done. Until then, it will be swimming every day and fishing when he can and just being a kid until school starts in August.

Sunday, July 12 – Our family, who live in East Texas, and friends (most of whom we did not know), put together a fund raiser for Kevin. The response was overwhelming. They had a plate lunch, which was sold for $3.50 a plate and an auction. Locals donated the food and a zillion cakes and pies which bakeries in surrounding towns donated. The auction items consisted of everything from t-shirts to a hand carved high chair (which was gorgeous). The outpouring of concern and compassion was tremendous and everything was appreciated more than we could ever say.

The weekend of August 1, we will be at Sea World of Texas for a day of fun with Shamu and friends. We will send an update to his page after the trip to let you know how things went.
