Holiday Resources

FROM Donna:

Heart of Wisdom - Holidays - Brief Overview of the Spring Holidays Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Shavu'ot

Multi-Cultural Calendar as a valuable resource for all KIDLINK classrooms around the world. KIDLINK students and KIDLEADRS have made this calendar possible. Included in the files you will find the unique ways our KIDLINK kids are celebrating their country's holidays and festivals. The entries might contain recipes for holiday foods, historical background, significance of the holidays and the special ways in which these days are observed. Our calendar entries are rich in local customs that perhaps cannot be found in books.

Easter in Cyberspace '98 - A Christian Perspective

FROM Brookes:

Resurrection Eggs: are a great way to help your children think about the real meaning of Easter! We've made baskets with our children and have given them to friends. We got those little green strawberry baskets from the grocery store produce man and added pipe cleaner handles to make baskets. We have 8 eggs that are opened one a night the Sunday night a week before Easter. Our eggs have the following objects: 1. a piece of cracker (the Last Supper); 2. a dime (the pieces of silver Judas received for his betrayal); 3. a Hershey's kiss (Judas' kiss in the garden); 4. a thorn (Christ's crown of thorns); 5. a nail (Jesus' cruxificion); 6. a clove (Jesus' burial spices); 7. a rock (Christ's tomb); and 8. To be opened Easter morning... an empty egg (Hallejuiah!!! :) ).

Our children look forward to this every year! We talk about each egg and I'm amazed at their understanding and insights! They teach me so much and bless me with their hearts for the Lord!!!

FROM Anita:

These actually come in a styrofoam egg carton with those plastic eggs.. There is a stroy for each egg too, but it is based on the verse, so you can *wing it.* I will include the ref. and the note on what each verse means.

Egg 1..The Donkey
Blue egg
Matthew 21:1-9
The donkey reminds us of Christs entry into Jerusalem.

Egg 2..Three coins Light pink egg
Matthew 26:14-16
The coins remind us of the thirty pieces of silver Judas received for betraying Jesus into the hands of the Jewish leaders.

Egg 3..The cup Light purple egg
Matt 26:17-19,26-28. Ex. 12:23
The cup reminds us of Jesus' last supper with his disciples before Hid crucifixion. It was what was used for the wine, which is drunk in memory of Christs blood that He shed for us and our sins.

Egg 4..Praying hands Orange egg
Mark 14:32-42
The praying hands remind us of Jesus visiting the Garden of Gethsemane to pray.

Egg 5..Leather strip Green egg
John 19:1-15. (also Matt. 27:26-31)
The leather reminds us of the whip used to give Jesus 39 lashes after His trial by Pilate.

Egg 6..Crown of thorns Light yellow egg
Matthew 27:29
The crown of thorns reminds us of the crown that the soldiers placed on Jesus' head while mocking Him, saying,"Hail, King of the Jews"

Egg 7..Three nails Yellow egg
John 19:16-22
The three nails reminds us of the nails that were driven into Jesus' hands and feet to nail Him to the cross.

Egg 8..one die.(as in dice) Light green egg
John 19:23-25
This one die reminds us of the Roman soldiers gambling for Jesus' robe.

Egg 9..The spear Purple egg
John 19:31-37
This item reminds us of the spear that the Roman soldiers used to pierce Jesus' side when He was on the cross.

Egg 10..gauze Cream colored egg
Matt. 27:57-61
The gauze reminds us of the linen cloth used by Joseph of Arimathea to wrap Jesus' body after He died on the cross.

Egg 11.. A stone Pink egg
Matt.28:1-2
The stone reminds us of the tomb with the stone rolled away.

Egg 12..Empty Light blue egg
Matt.28:5-8
The empty egg reminds us of the empty tomb and Jesus' resurrection from the dead.

You coauld probably make or find lots of these things! I don't think the egg color matters, that is just to help when using them. Here's an alternate list of other Scriptures they give so you cna add more..

Palm Branch..Triumphal entry..Mk.11:7-8 Small piece of soap..Jesus washes disciples feet..Jn.13:4-10
Rooster..Peters denial..Lk.22:61
Rope..Jesus arrest..Jn.18:12
White cloth..blindfold..Lk.22:64
Purple cloth..Jesus trial..Jn.19:2b
Black inside of egg..darkness form noon to three..Lk.23:44-45
Soldiers..at the cross..Jn. 19:32
small rag tied to stick..Gall offered to Jesus..Jn.19:28-30
Spices..burial of Jesus..Lk.23:56
seal/stamp..seal on stone of tomb..Mt.27:66
Key..Jesus came in and stood among them
Angel..Resurrection..Jn. 20:12
Batting(cloth)..Jesus ascension thru the clouds..Lk. 24:51-53
Bible..Gods Word to tell others..Lk.24:46-50
Cross..Jesus crucifixion..Jn. 19:16-22.
