Instructor Background



The Chief Instructor of the school is Don Edwards, who has trained with some of the most prominant martial artists around the world in Eskrima, Jeet Kune Do, Grappling and Muay Thai Kick boxing. He is a Guro (instructor)in the Filipino Martial art of Doce Pares Eskrima and a Sifu (instructor) in the martial arts of Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do.

Guro Edwards began studying Doce Pares under Master "Dong" Cuesta in the 1980's and is now an instructor in the system under Master Cuesta and is also certified to teach the Doce Pares system of Eskrima under both Grand Master "Diony" Canete and Grand Master "Cacoy" Canete.




Sifu Edwards is also a "Full Instructor" in Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do (JFJKD) under Sifu Richard Bustillo and a recognized instructor by the Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do Nucleus, the JFJKD governing body headed by Bruce Lee's former wife to perserve the original teachings of Bruce Lee.




Sifu/Guro Edwards is a "Blue Belt" in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under BJJ Black Belt Fernando Sarmento. In the past Sifu/Guro Edwards studied with grappling masters such as the Machado Brothers, Gene LaBelle and Gokor.




Guro Don Edwards was a member of the 1994 and 1996 United States Eskrima Team and competed in the World Championships in those years earning two bronze medals and earned a silver medal in the 1998 national full contact stick fighting championships. Sifu Edwards won first place in 1994 and 1996 regional WEKAF competitions qualifying him for the US Eskrima stickfighting Team.

Sifu/Guro Edwards is also a third degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do as well as a certified tactical baton instructor through the FBI/ASP Corporation. While a Tae Kwon Do practioner Sifu Edwards was the head instructor for the "New York City Partnership" Tae Kwon Do program benefiting problem children, and competed in numerous full contact tournaments.

Guro Edwards trained and coached the 1994 WEKAF women's middle weight world champion, the 1998 men's light heavyweight National champion, the 2000 Eastern regional mens lightweight regional champion and 2000 mens Eastern regional double stick champion as well as the 2000 mens National Bronze medalist.

Guro Edwards has appeared in Black Belt Magazine as well as Martial Arts Training Magazine and is included in GM "Diony" Canete's book Philippine Martial Arts - Eskrima, Kali, Arnis. Guro Edwards was also nominated to World Martial Arts Hall of Fame on April 26, 1997.
