A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE IRONWORKERS
The Iron Workers District Council of New England, an affiliate of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers - Washington, D.C., is comprised of 10 Local Unions with over 3,500 members.
The first charter in New England was issued from our International in 1899. Working as a team with our signatory contractors, we have played an instrumental part in the New England Construction industry since.

Our Mission
We couple our intense training program with the philosophy that a good job is one which is done safely, on time and within budget. Our desire is to serve the owner and community with quality work, performed by local craftsmen and craftswomen who have been trained through our apprentice training programs, journeymen and journeywomen upgrading programs and foreman training programs. We offer our members periodic CPR and First Aid Training classes to give the users a well rounded work force on their projects. We also work hand in hand with our contractors, as well as the general contractors, to meet the many job related issues that are encountered on a daily basis, OSHA laws, minority involvement and residency laws must be addressed, and we take this very seriously.

Virtually every aspect of work performed by our members requires them to be placed in situations fraught with danger. With this fact in mind, our members are initiated into an intensive Apprentice Training Program giving the customers of our contractors the most well trained, safe work force in The Ironworking Industry. Besides this mandatory training, we also offer continuous upgrading for our journeymen and women in a wide range of skills such as hazardous waste training, lead paint training, many types of welding application programs and c.p.r. training. With the constant technological changes in our industry this type of upgrading is a necessity. Developers and owners that ultimately utilize the skills of these highly educated workers are never sorry for their decision!
