All Roads Lead to PinPoint

The view from Leigh road, with our newly painted sign. A bustling newsagent is to the left, and the shop is in close proximity is the Eastleigh rail station and the high street bus station. Notice the smaller illuminated sign above the door to drive pedestrian traffic into the store.

Follow this link to see PinPoint's proximity to the rail station and the high street.

Welcome to PinPoint!

A door? Big deal...well, it DOES allow me to point out that we are protected by Shop Watch Security (you'll forgive me for not going into detail on the web), and have merchant status with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Delta and others. I plan to help PinPoint's next owner continue these relationships, as they do promote traffic and impulse purchases. Also, you'll notice the promotion of our Soundsite Listening Post (more on that below), and various new releases, local events, and more. So there IS a lot going on at this door...you could even think of it as your "doorway to opportunity."

But mainly, it's the door to the shop. :- )

"How can we help you today?"

This is the register counter of the shop, with upcoming releases listed on the menus at left, budget CDs, magazines, and other impulse items at right, and nearly every available surface used to promote or display product. The CDs dangling from the ceiling are very soothing for infants and employees alike.
Now, pretend you're standing in the center of the shop floor...if you turned a little to your right, you'd see something like the next photo below. (Note the MOJO magazine cover.) You can mentally construct a 360 degree picture of the shop with the next few photos.

Colorful as a Disney Nightmare

With so much inventory, and a relatively compact space, we've developed a number of space-saving techniques to make the most of our display space. There is a method to it all, and you'll find most of what you (and your customers) require is within easy reach. These racks features full-length pop, rock, alternative, etc. and our "Price Smash" special CDs.

As you might guess, the photo at left is actually the view from behind the counter, but you see the right end of the display in the photo above, and the entrance to the shop. Photo at right shows the shop entrance (again!) and the Soundsite listening station, courtesy of EMI Records, where shoppers can preview five current releases through headphones. You can also see a smaller double-back display rack where we keep Second-hand CDs, plus our Rap, Reggae and Funk inventory, and other goodies.

But wait...there's more!

To the right of the Soundsite station is the rack displaying CD Singles, Blues & Country CDs, Soundtracks, Folk, and "adult contemporary" CDs. And there on the right is the menu of upcoming releases and the counter top that you saw several photos back. Do you get the picture now?

So that's pretty much the "public" side of PinPoint...now for a little visit behind the scenes.

"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."

Here's the "command center" of PinPoint. Above left is the view of the register, and a computer that gives us access to our primary suppliers inventory database. Notice at the bottom, the aluminum drawers are where the actual CDs are stored until they are stored--only empty jewel boxes are displayed to prevent shoplifting. The photo above right shows the hinged counter top (so you don't have to hop over the counter), telephone, those upcoming release menus yet again, as well as our space for handling special orders and various other top-secret music store tasks.

I like Wendy James...so sue me!

Here's the upstairs office area, decor optional. Another computer for various office/bookkeeping functions, space for doing ad layouts, and a spot for generally running the business. This space COULD be altered to actually expand the store, with permission from the landlord and acquisition of the proper permits.

The pinnacle of PinPoint

...well, the top floor at least. Upstairs from the office is additional storage space, a small sink (and the kettle of course), and a bathroom.
Well, that's the tour, for the most part. I hope it's given you a basic idea of what the premises are like and perhaps the "flavor" of the shop. I encourage you to read more about the shop at the links below, or contact me with any questions. And thanks for stopping by!  --Steve
