Notes for Hayum Maentel FREIMANN
General Note
Bavarian Jews did not adopt family names until 1813/1817.

The Freimanns (adopted name) lived in Sugenheim, Mittelfranken. In 1808 there were 121 Jews living in Sugenheim.

Mittelfranken became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1813. Bavarian Judenedict of 1813 ordered Jews to take family names.

Hayum Wolf Maentel (Heyum Mandel) , "Schutz-und-Handelsjude" was a cattle dealer in Sugenheim, under the protection of Baron von Seckendorff. He earned his living from trading in livestock.

Between 1809-1815 he adopted the surname FREIMANN.

In 1823 , Hajum Mendel Freymann , together with Loeser Herbst and Samuel Gutmann , bought house No. 22 in Ezelheim/Sugenheim for 1107 Florines.

In 1829 , Hayum Wolf Freimann signed for the establishment of a Jewish elementary school. He and Simon Samuel Guttmann leased the "Meierei Hof" in Sugenheim from 1812 to 1832.

The family lived in house No 95, which Hayum Mendel Freimann and his sister Roesla Mendel had inherited after the death of their mother in 1817.
