The DeMotts

John R. DeMott was born between 1822-1828, probably New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey. He prospered in many businesses- he was in the grocery business on Hiram Street, then he became a butcher, then owned a fruit store.
He served the public community (Third Ward)- He was an Alderman earlier in his life then as Board of Freeholders represenative. He was also the Overseer of the Poor and many other charitable deeds.

He married Harriet Esther Edwards Goddard, known as Esther, in New Hampshire, 1860. They had two daughters:
1. Esther DeMott. She married Henry Pumyea and moved to Brooklyn.
2. Harriet Eleanor DeMott. She was a schoolteacher prior to her marraige of Rev. John Black at her parent's residence on Hiram Street in 1901. After their ceremony, they moved to New York where Rev. Black served his ministry.

For more information on the Blacks, see The Blacks page.

Esther was born in Maine, ca. 1832, and was associated with W.C.T.U. later in New Brunswick. More information on Esther's family below.
John DeMott died from diabetes in December, 1898. His wife, Esther died in 1915. They were earnest Christians and belonged to the First Reformed Church.

The Edwards/Goddards

There is much work to do here and I am missing a connection - so if anyone has this missing gap, I would appreciate any information or leads.

Among family papers written by Harriet Esther Edwards Goddard, was a family tree so speak. She wrote of her lineage as follows:
Her mother was Esther Edwards, born 1803, probably Abbington, Mass. with a side note reffering to a Prof. Fred Edwards Goddard - probably husband?!? Then her father, David Edwards, lived about 50 yrs. David's father is listed as John Edwards. From here, soucres have been confirmed as to the lineage. John's father was Rev. Jonathan Edwards, born 1703. His father was Rev. Timothy Edwards, born 1669. Timothy's father was Rev. Richard Edwards, born 1647.

It is the gap between Esther, David and John that I am having a bit of a time proving. When I fill this gap, I'll complete this page.
