Great granddaughter of Harry Tootell
(B. 1887, D. 1955) and Annie Heys (B. 1886, D. 1952). Harry's
parents were Robert Tootell (B. 1856, D 1938) and Mary Abbott (B. 1856,
D. 1928). Robert's parents were Thomas Tootell and Ann Shutt.
Thomas's parents were Mark Tootell and Ann Pollard. All came from
Blackburn, Lancashire, England. Harry Tootell immigrated to New Zealand
around 1908.
My Great-grandfather's
name was Richard Joshua Tootell, b.?1860, d.?1953. He married Ellen
Green, b.?1860, d.1955-56. He was an Alderman on the Burnley Council and also
ran the Burnley Baths. His address,
when alive, was 22 Reedley Grove, Burnley, Lancashire.
The marriage produced
seven children, their names being Richard (killed in action in WW1), William (died at 18 years, accidentally) then two girls (names
unknown other than the first died in infancy and the second dying at 12 from
TB), the fifth's sex in unknown, next came Alice (who married Harry Slater and had two boys, Eric (was a manager at the Calder Hall Nuclear Power
station) and Robert, and last was my grandfather, George.
Richard Joshua had a
brother who came to Australia
in 1852? who "vanished in the bush" and was never heard from again!
George was born in Burnley, 14/9/1897 and married Doris Foulds,
b. 20/4/1896. They had two children, both girls, Helen and Joyce (my mother).
George was the General Superintendent of Baths & Washhouses,
Kingston-Upon-Hull. Joyce met my father, Gerald O'Neill, when he was studying
in England for his specialist's qualifications. Her sister married and had
three children they remained in England.
I am doing a history
project for school about my name. I am looking to find out how I am
related to Fredric Delmont Tootell.

My father was Ernest Matthew Tootell - born January 18 1900 and died In Marston Green,
Birmingham in 1964. He was married to Lily Florence Franks
and apparently he had been married before. They had two children by
their marriage, Grace (my sister) and me, Vivienne.
